2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

My indy told me that my turbo waste gate was stuck and to replace the turbo would cost $5000 (or $3500 for reconditioned or used), fitted. He had a long list of other issues also all with their own prices. I declined and he charged me $220 for looking at the car. Then I took it to a Landy specialist who told me there is no waste gate and a hose was split; he charged me $400 and I thought I was getting an amazing deal.

...that was four years ago but I haven't taken it to a professional since... for anything.

edit: I guess the point is - Its great from a savings perspective to have found you guys

I think it’s the fact that most if not all of the vehicles sold by landrover are now of premium range and their owners just pay whatever the cost at the main dealers for servicing and repairs so they just charge crazy prices but unfortunately they apply this pricing structure even if you turn up with your 10 year old Freelander. The good thing with the FL though is most stuff is pretty straightforward there are plenty of parts available and not that expensive to maintain as a DIYer, there isn’t many tasks that haven’t been tackled and discussed in depth on this forum and this saves us all a fortune .

Lower suspension arm bought from e-bay still in my garage. Can't feel any problem from the one which had an advisory ball joint movement yet . No knocking / feels and drives the same

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

I've come to this late but for info. my local independent Land Rover specialist charged me £134 labour inc VAT for replacing one of the arms, which I think is one and a half hours' worth. I've just bought a decent OEM one for the other side from Craddocks plus all the new bolts and nuts which cost me £104 inc. VAT.

I was going to do it myself but since I'd need to spend around £90 on a 'heavier' torque wrench (which I'll probably not need again) and some other bits, I think I may as well get the garage to do it. Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

hello, maybe it will help someone. the first video is the original front arms after 300,000 kilometers.

the second video is replacements from the manufacturer monroe, which already had worn out pins and loosened silent blocks after 20,000 km

the third video is completely new. the manufacturer is "meyle HD"

Had the same a year ago a independent garage replaced 1 and shortly after I did the other.
A year on both had gone again so have done both which took me 6 hours not a easy job cost for both arms and both trackrod ends was £350. A big issue is the rubber covers split which lets in water and then joint rusts.
I replaced mine with silicon covers these shouldn’t spilt also the new joints didn’t have hardly any grease on them !
What I’ve just done at work is remove both balljoints from the old arms by grinding the rivets off and fly press the robots out as you can buy a bull joint repair kit which bolts on to the original arms at £20 each will also drill and tap holes and fit grease nipples in.
