So today I took my FL2 and followed my wife in her Suzuki Swift to get a new windscreen. She had a couple of what looked like minor chips in the screen so I got onto the Autoglass website and booked for someone to come to my house and fit a new one. Then we got a call saying that it had to go to one of their service centres as the car has auto braking and adaptive cruise control etc (a ADAS system) and that the system has to be recalibrated when the windscreen is replaced. This will take three hours so she didn't fancy hanging around so went off and had breakfast in B&Q and a look around.

Job all done on time and we now have a recalibration certificate to go with her insurance. Cars are just getting too complicated! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Today I removed the slightly acky looking ‘wood grain’ trim pieces on my dash and wrapped them in gloss black vinyl, I’ve never been a fan of pretend wood in a car, I’m quite pleased with the result.

Nice job...I filled mine with diesel Again, it likes this.

Yeah it’s pretty straightforward, the interiors are built pretty well and things come apart fairly intuitively:

for the glovebox trim you open it, pull the sides of the inside inward to release it from the stops, pull the damper out of its slot and the door drops down, from there remove the one trim retaining screw from the end and the trim can be slid sideways and out.

The piece under your knees houses an airbag, so disconnect the battery before faffing with it! There are 2 bolts that hold it in place inside the gap under the steering wheel column and two screws right at the bottom of the panel near the odb port, once these are removed it’s still retained by spring clips at the top and bottom you can pull the whole unit out toward you, goes with a bit of a pop, be sure not to let it drop though as you’ve got to release the connector going into the headlight switch unit, take care with the airbag wires at the bottom, they’re pretty short and held on with a clip that can be released. I didn’t disconnect mine, just propped it up and took the trim pieces off.

Here’s what the clips on the back of the trims look like, there is also a toothed washer jobby on those circular pegs on the two smaller pieces you’ll have to pry off to release them.

Parked up at home after a trip to my Mother’s house - noticed the mileage before switching off - 141414 miles… Lexus RX450H - 500 mile a week commuter- I just couldn’t trust in a newer RRS or DS for that….
