I own a Freelander 2 which has broken 2 x cylinder cam followers - after stripping out and replacing all cam followers and exhaust cam shaft , re built and its done the same again on cylinder 1 & 3 after less than 1 mile

Crud blocking an oil way , perhaps the feed to the hydraulic lifters. You would see damage around that area and on the ends of the cam followers.

What work on the engine had been done prior to the breakage, had the cambelt been changed, were the correct engine locking tools used i.e. Starter motor removed to lock flywheel and camshaft locking pin installed. How many miles has the engine covered. Cam followers (rockers) only normally fail when they are unable to de-press the valve down there this woul indicate a there a bent valve or sticking valve. |
