£1085 + VAT for both exchange units. Website here https://www.bellengineering.co.uk/ £180 to fit a diff or service a Haldex. Had a diff diagnosed, swapped and Haldex service a couple of years ago. Was able to watch the process. |

Got a local garage doing the steering rack and hopefully Bell doing the diff and heldex for total of 2k...saving of 3.5k Common sense isn't very common.

I did the diff last year. Bought on ebay and added the optional drain for easier servicing of the diff instead of the daft single fill/drain as standard. It was an exchange unit with 12month warranty. At least on Ebay you do get to see reviews. i f they are not 99% positive then go elsewhere. The haldex was stripped down, cleaned out and serviced at the same time. Well worth doing, it was mess.

With a maximum noseweight of 250kg under limited conditions spring assisters are not needed, provided you are within maximum rear axle loading there should be no problems. Freelanders are as all LR vehicles designed to tow unlike most 4 X 4 which can tow my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

What's your caravan's nose weight when loaded for towing?. Obviously when braking the rear will be pushed down but the FL2 should have a near normal attitude when stationary. If your tyres are being heavily distorted then your caravan is not balanced properly. Jules |

What sort of spring assistors are you considering? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Rear axle load has little or nothing to do with diff failure. After studying the design, it's a combination of factors causing this issue, none of them to do with vehicle load, or the Haldex. Weight of the caravan should have little effect on the down-force on the rear of the car, the bigger vans are twin axle so should be better not worse. Ours is roughly 1400kg I deliberately go for maximum down-force allowed by the caravan manufacturer (120kg), dragged the van all over Europe, never missed a beat, even going up some bleeding mountain in San Sebastian the wrong way - very steep, lots of hairpins, got a round of applause from the campsite staff when they saw us coming from the wrong direction.
