Re: Program Key fob

Sorry put it on twice. Shocked
Hi

I have just successfully programmed a new key fob to my Freelander 2.

I have an Autel MaxiAP AP200 unit. In the picture below. It plugs into the OBD11 port and is a full diagnostics tool for the car. Which has been really helpful.

In the service options is Immo Keys. And is a really simple instructions to follow by a series of putting in the original key and the new blank one.

Dealership wanted £120 for a new fob and £200 to program it! So did some research and the AP200 was £58 and a blank key fob with battery and circuit board was £15. Both off Ebay. The tool has been useful for other issues as well but see the pictures below. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info Mike, I've only got one key and was very disappointed to find that my expensive IID BT tool is pretty limted on the FL2 and does not cover keys so I will order one of these and a fob and get it sorted. Might even sell my IID then!
Cheers, Mark

Thanks again Mike... AP200 and ebay key all coded in and for £71 and the old keys removed so a bit safer as well.

AP200 is a pretty good tool from the 10minutes I've been playing with it. Just reset my throttle body (having removed it to do flapless manifold and glowplugs). Plenty of live data and data logging options, forced DPF regeneration (for those poor souls that have one) EPB release and service mode reset etc and will work on ANY Land Rover so will be dropping onto some friends Disco's/RRS to see how it workds with those Thumbs Up

Glad to help and spread the word. Even if you only use it to program keys its still a no brainer Mr. Green

AP200 programming failure

Bought the AP200 on advice from here, and it seems a great tool! Deleted the multiple codes without even worrying myself with reading them - will check again after a week of driving but already the folding mirrors now work.

Got to the key programming part, and was able to "re-program" my 2 keys that no longer remotely lock the vehicle, but it failed on the one I bought from eBay - it just ejected the key whenever I tried to put it in:

I've messaged them for their take, and they said when it ejects the key, just keep trying, so I did, and it worked!!

Happy customer, and if you have issues just keep trying Smile

just read through this post, I have 2 original fobs one of them has died, changing the battery did not resolve the issue, so if I buy a new fob ( thinking of using land rover ) and re use the key from the broken fob, should I just need to have the new fob reprogrammed.

I have just bought a Nanocom Evo with the F2 software - has anyone used this to reprogram fobs?
also my F2 is from Japan (315Mhz)

thanks

@ 1powerrack, as far as I am aware, the Nanocom Evo does not currently have the ability to reprogram fobs. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)

thanks for the advice,I knew you could do fobs for Discovery 2 with the D2 package, I had not looked in detail on the F2 software, as I never thought of that task until today.
looks like a trip to the local indi or stealer

Hi Brian

just done a quick video on about key programming

Hi Mike

I may have missed it sorry but do you have the car turned on whilst programming each key?

Is it obvious from the Autel AP200 once each key is programmed and does it return to the start or do you have to manually start the process again for the next key?

I’m assuming you do all the keys in succession before trying any to see if it has worked?

Thanks for your help!

Neil

Looking to buy an AP200 but those I have seen say not suitable for key programming. Pictures look same as in YouTube video.

Tried out the AP200 today, it seems to work fine but the AKS after-market keys I bought were rejected by the car. I think the problem was the keys, they arrived in a baggy, not the original packaging shown on amazon, so they might have been returns previously assigned to another vehicle which of course would render them useless. Ordered a different brand (auotkeymax), will see how that goes.

One question, the app asks how many keys do I want to assign... anyone know does that include my original working key, or only the new keys I'm adding?

just did one with the AP200 so Autel are talking out of their well you know whats.
If as in my case one original key lost leaving me with only one. To programme one new key you would enter 2 when asked number of keys.

Thanks Bogart.

I got it done, but it rejected the new key multiple times. Eventually in the process I decided to "help" the new key into the slot since it seemed a stiffer fit than the old one. Lo and behold, it stayed in the slot. Tried starting up and it worked. So somewhere in that process it actually got the key programmed but the software never admitted it. Oh well, saved the $400 to the dealer. $60 for Autel and $30 for the key.
, fair discount.
