Parked down the road HDC fault

Car is currently parked some 50m from home with battery on charge in garage. Just cut out this morning as wife was on way to Lidl. Will not restart and comes up with the usual engine performance reduced/HDC symptoms. OBD reader shows no faults. So knowing battery on FL2 can be the cause of so many faults took out and put on charge. Will try again in a few hours.
I tried to see about pushing it back in neutral. Disconnected the yellow thing under the gear stick fascia but still cannot budge the vehicle. How does this yellow thing work as it came away in my hand and is now lying loose inside. I know it is meant to disengage something, but what, and have I done that or not?

Have no idea what part you are taking about. Could you post a photo of it and what model Freelander you have. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

If you watch this You Tube video the yellow thing comes into view at 40 seconds.

I did not need to use the yellow thing as I could switch into N without a problem, all I could not do was push the vehicle as if it was locked somehow. Anyway after charging the battery at home going down the road and re fitting she started on the 3 rd attempt and I drove home. I had already fitted one of the recommended 2nd earth straps so removed that cleaned up connections and refitted. Will keep and eye on the battery is 4 years old so maybe time for yet another new one.

Checked battery this morning 12.1v was 12.6 when I left it yesterday. Put on charge again within 2 minutes showing 12.7v and fully charged. New battery to be sorted out.

Sorry I have no experience with automatic cars. Interesting video though. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Yes has an additional earth cable which I have just taken off, cleaned the end lugs and re-fitted.
New battery due here early in week Varta F18.
Am still perplexed by the fact she would not budge even when lever in N how the hell would I have supposedly towed her if needed?

You wouldn’t have when mine wouldn’t go because of the steering locked problem the recovery guy had to knock skid plates under the wheels and winch it bit by bit it was a complete bum ache and took ages. Getting it off the truck was another story.

New battery in and all fine so far. I know there's is only one clamp for the battery always thought would be better with 2 as I can move battery with clamp done up tight.
