Check That the parking brake is adjusted correctly and that it is fully releasing. It could be that one cable has become stiff and is holding that brake slightly on. Also check the parking brake shoes are all in one piece. The friction material has been known to come away from the shoe. |

It could also be a sticking caliper, which can also happen, if insufficient care is taken to clean the caliper correctly when new pads are fitted.

I’ve had both problems , the hand brake shoes not releasing a few years ago . Very recently I replaced the rear discs. brake shoes , calipers and pads . One side was getting hot . I could smell the pads when I got out of the car . The sticking caliper ( As Nodge said) was at the end of it’s working life , probably hastened because the vehicle is used off-road .
