Is my FL2 a prankster?

Walking past the FL2 at 05.30 today, with a cup of coffee in my hand in the pre-dawn silence... when there was a sudden almighty bang from the front of the car - sounded like someone had slammed a tin-tray onto the bonnet! Of course, I ducked and spilled my coffee! Laughing

After searching for the expected pieces of aeroplane debris or meteor fragments, it turns out that it was simply the front spring snapping.

The car hadn't moved for three days and the chances of the spring going, while parked and at precisely the point when I was behind it with a full cup of coffee, seem so small that I am now convinced it was the car having a laugh! Very Happy 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Expensive laugh

Pig of a job to replace the front springs on these on your own.

Hope you get it sorted. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Modern springs do break, unfortunately. It was just luck or coincidence that you happened to witness it from the outside.
The daughter's learning car (a Citroën C3) broke 4 springs while it was sitting, over a 6 month period.
When I worked for Citroën, me and another technician fitted hundreds of retaining cups to the top of the struts on C3s, which was done to catch broken spring fragments when the springs fail. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
