You can reset the battery using JLR SDD without issue. To my knowledge, if you don't, the charging system will self adjust after a day or two of driving.

Now looking for a new battery Sad

An observation...

Euro Car Parts seem to advertise at about twice the price of anybody else but have a perpetual ‘enter this code for x% savings’ sale...

Example: Exide Excel 096 Car Battery (EB740)

ECP Price = was £202.52 save 23%, now £154.99 but for our Valentines Sale Event, enter the code 'LOVE50’ to save a further 40%... yours for just £92.99 delivered

Alternatively...
Groves Batteries £77.06 plus £10.00 delivery or Tayna £64.99 plus £7.98 delivery

I prefer the pricing model of 'buy this item for this price' over the ECP convoluted double discount and still pay more than anywhere else.

Now, back to buying a battery Very Happy If I buy it from ECP could give it to 'er indoors' as a Valentine's Day prezzie. She'll like that.

From someone who works for Euro Car Parts they have four pricing levels.

1 Walk or phone in price
2 Discount price
3 Trade price
3 Trade lower price for customers who buy a lot of parts, eg Halfords

Lots of businesses have 'public' and trade prices... not many (not any in fact) that I can think of have a perpetual sale that entails entering a code actually shown on their website to get a to a price equal to or higher than I can obtain elsewhere without the faff of 'was £xxx, now £yyy but enter this code to get a further zz% discount.

Presumably, using the example above, that battery would cost me £154 inc delivery if I phone the order in versus £73 inc delivery if I phone Tayna?

It was just an observation on the pricing model as it applies to the likes of me... a Joe Public buying an occasional item like a car battery online.

Don't forget to check out their sister company - CarParts4less.co.uk - who will list an RRP of £202.52 (as per ECP) but a sell price of £103.89 online, except if you use the current 20% off code (LOVE20) you'll then get it for £83.11 delivered.

ECP do occasionally have some okay prices but overall I'd only use them if I needed something today and they had it available. Better prices on 95% of things elsewhere.

For batteries specifically, Tayna or Battery Megastore have been my go to for years. The price is always fair (you may save a few pennies elsewhere if you spend a long time looking) but on the whole it's not worth the hassle looking.

For something that lasts for 6 years or more then, as I said up thread, Halfords supply and fit Yuasa batteries for about £130 with a 5 year guarantee and no frigging about under the bonnet. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

New battery time. LR fitted an 80Ah at 700 cca as standard to my FL2 (no stop start) but I found another battery 2mm longer at 90Ah and 800 cca. Yuasa YBX5115. Fits ok and starts quicker now. Old one was getting a bit slow before and not holding a full charge. Replaced at 76 months old.

What I like about the above battery is this .....

the 'magic-eye' which tells you the condition of the 'inside' of the battery.

I had a magic-eye on my previous battery, but alas this was deleted on my current battery. Mad

The "magic eye" only tells you if that cell is good.

I have ordered the YBX5110 / Yuasa 12v 85Ah 800A. The two year old Varta has been charged at some length with the shiny new CTEK but today it is back to 12.06v.

Hopefully, the Gearbox Fault : Reduced Traction error will be kicked into touch again with the new battery but if not, it will be parked up (battery free) until it either goes to Bells for a Haldex service or to WBAC.

New battery fitted, starts like a good 'un but still showing transmission error - tickover only, the car hasn't moved and the gear selector hasn’t been moved out of 'P' yet. It still seems too coincidental that old battery and something in the transmission failed both at the same time.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know what the very thin wires connected between the neg and pos battery leads is for? It has proper connectors at each end rather than something codged on.
