CTEC MX5 Charger.

Hi. I have the above charger and use it to keep my Mazda mx5 batt topped up when not in use. This charger has a reconditioning setting which I would like to use on my 8 year old land rover batt. Do I need to remove the batt from the vehicle first or can I leave it in the car. I ask because the recondition cycle puts 15v Ito the batt at times. It’s a lead acid battery.

Whilst my Freelander battery is an AGM, I have used the charger on recon mode with the battery left in situ with no issues. Also on my Jag XKR lead acid and on my wife's x type, lead acid. I am in the process of installing charging points via the tow sockets ( though of course not on the XKR ! )

If in doubt contact CTEK themselves. I emailed them over an issue regarding EFB car batteries and got a response within 24 hrs.

FYI
Use the AGM setting on the CTEK charger for EFB batteries.

Just replace the battery. A charger can't fix a battery that is at the end of its life.
And yes, it needs disconnecting, as it puts spikes of energy into the battery, to try to clean the cells.

It won't work though, so replace the battery, and be happy you got 8 years out of it. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Your not in Scotland... replace the battery!

After 4 years a lead acid battery is on borrowed time!

The battery could be up to 6 months older than the car.
