You are correct Land Rover should have tested the LR2 to show that it is immune to EMI like this.

With the caveat that the metal shield under the engine would have been installed, no guarantee if the plate is missing.

If you have a code reader that reads real time data (PIDs) then it would be interesting to know what the MAP sensor is reading as this happens

What code do you get when the light turns out?

I am assuming that it’s the MAP but it could be the MAF or possibly a different sensor

The error code is PA0299. TURBOCHARGER/SUPERCHARGER UNDERBOOST.

Also of note. I am neither accelerating or decelerating at the time. For the UNDERBOOST error I would assume it would be tripped under moderate to heavy acceleration.

The MAP sensor can cause that code to be set.

If you don’t have a code reader that can read the PIDs then try crossing the bridge at low RPM and high RPM.

You will need to shift manually

I am assuming that you could drive the bridge in one gear lower and one gear higher than what you are typically using.


This should give you a low boost and high boost condition

If you are able select a gear that will give you 1500 RPMs and another that will give you 4000 RPMs

This should confirm if the EMI is enough to raise and lower th3 voltage output sufficiently to set the code

I do have a code reader with real time setting. Will hook it up and watch the MAP readings as I cross the spot. Will be interesting to see.

update...Even though the check engine light came on at the same spot every time. It may have had nothing to do with the location. Thoroughly checked all intake hoses and low and behold. The classic split in the top pipe going inti the intake manifold. Very small but here. Have ordered a new section of pipe from the UK. All I could find here in Aus was the whole set from the Intercooler to the manifold for around $200. Getting just the top section express DHL for $40. In the meantime I have used the old silicone tape and zip tie short term fix. Still can't work out why check engine light only came on at that spot and why the car didn't go into limp mode. It was blowing a small puff of smoke on take off, that was about it, maybe a small loss of power. Maybe that's just the quirkiness of Land Rovers.
