Freelander 2 2007 2.2L Engine ECU Replace with a used unit.

Hi Members

Could someone please assist with an issue that i have with a dead eng ecu 6EGD.

My ecu has stopped working and i have no comms with diagnostic tool.

Is it possible to buy a used ecu and fit and sync it. I have JLR SDD on my laptop

What issues would i have if i do this?

Thanks In advance

From what I am remembering, there is a function inside SDD for replacing engine ECU.
It involves starting the procedure, SDD collects info from the old ECU, have you replace the ECU, relaunch the SDD, load the old session and then it writes the old info into the "new" ECU.
In your case, if the old ECU is "dead", it may not work...
And the procedure for replacing the ECU with a new one may not work if you use an used one...

I exchanged my ECU for a second hand one using SDD, which was a simple procedure. However my old ECU had a suspect output fault, so still had coms. SDD downloaded some data from the old ECU (I don't know what data exactly), but presumably the injector codes, throttle calibration, any other relevant engine data and immobiliser stuff.

I imagine SDD can configure a new module to the vehicle, where the old one has failed, but you'll need to have a look at the options.
If the immobiliser stuff configures OK, then you'll still need to manually enter injector codes and run the calibration routines for the throttle butterfly, MAF sensor and anything else that needs doing when the ecu is replaced. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Hi All

Thanks for the the replies and info.

I have managed to read ecu contents via ktag so hopefully this will allow me to use a second hand unit now.

Will let you know the outcome.

Thanks
