United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Aintree Green
Rear silencer colour

Hi to all. I have recently purchased an Aintree green Freelander 2 and will soon be removing the rear bumper to fit a towbar. Whilst it is removed I would like to tidy the rear and paint the rear silencer. It is mainly black but the paint is badly flaking,my question is would the silencer have originally been black. Can anyone confirm this . Thanks in advance.

I’m still on the original exhaust from 09 . I believe it was silver , aluminised steel , with a stainless steel tailpipe , which can be polished up nicely if you can be bothered . If the tail pipe is stainless ( the actual pipe not one if those clip on trims ) it is probably original . If the tail pipe is mild steel it’s probably a replacement. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Mine was the same looked liked it was painted black and had peeled underneath leaving the metal. I cleaned it up and resprayed it with black BBQ paint, Not sure if it should be but certainly looks better. Also did the Tailpipe as well.

Mine was also matt black, 2007 3.2 petrol, when I purchased it new. As with others, paint started to peel after several years. Approx. 5 years ago I cleaned it up and resprayed it with black log burner fire spray, and it's still in excellent condition.

Going by what everyone has said I believe it was probably black originally. Thanks for all your help.

Supposedly, the exhaust on our FL2’s is stainless steel, not a very high grade, but not aluminised mild steel or painted.

Landrover always used low grade stainless steel for the exhaust system, which is why paint doesn't stick for very long. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
