United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Barolo Black
Rear propshaft cv

Evening all,
My wife's tired old Freelander 2 recently developed severe noise coming from the rear differential.
I obtained a recon differential, and along with the online manual decided to have a go at replacement.

When I pulled the diff off the propshaft on removal, the inner cage of the plunging cv joint popped out and shed the bearings on the floor.
It was a real struggle getting the joint back together and I suspect I've damaged the joint somehow because now, although the diff sounds quiet, I can feel vibration and hear a knocking sound, worse under load.

I've since found out that the rear propshaft cv is avalable here: https://desshelleyshafts.com/product/land-...22-spline/

From those pictures I see that the joint is really in 3 parts not 2.

I have tried again today to remove the outer cage from the end of the haldex coupling but it's not budging.

Looking at recon propshafts, these all come with the complete rear cv joint, including outer cage and covers.

So, regardless of whether I attempt to replace the cv joint, or the whole propshaft, I still need to get the outer cage of the rear cv out of the Haldex flange,

And my question is simply - How?

How have other people found the job of separating the rear propshaft cv from the Haldex coupling?

Thanks,
Mike

Not done it on a FL2 but when I removed my haldex for servicing on my Evoque, even with the bolts removed and the joint loose, I could not pull the prop back far enough to get the joint out of the diff flange. In the end I just removed the bolts from the front axle carrier and as I lowered that down, the prop just fell out of the flange.

Can’t you just tap the outer cv joint body out of the Haldex flange using a chisel either side? If they are anything like your normal cv joint, the inner part should be held onto the prop by a circling or spring clip. They can be cleaned and reassembled fairly easily. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.
