Don't get me wrong as this is very likely to be my wifes last Christmas, having all the family around for one last Christmas with all the laughter / arguments / mess that involves would be great. But how would we feel if one of us fell poorly because of it, needed hospital treatment, and took up a bed that was needed for a cancer patient !

.

I echo your thoughts Andy . In March this year my wife’s last 4 weeks were spent in the care of the NHS in the cancer unit , ward 12 , at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary . She passed a week before lockdown began, only 3 months after diagnosis . I felt privileged that I could be there at her side for over a week 24/7 as she slipped away .The following week others would not have been afforded that dignity . During that time I saw the real caring faces of the NHS frontline workers on the front line. From caring for my wife as an individual human on an hourly basis , to staff bringing me hot drinks and biscuits at 3 AM . Those people were stretched before Covid 19 .

We should all assess every action we take and be honest with ourselves and know that as a consequence of selfish actions we might cause downstream stress to the NHS and may deprive one person in need of critical care or delay one life saving diagnosis .

If we look at it that way giving up a few days of overindulgence for once in our lifetimes , (which quite frankly has only been granted for political expediency to keep Johnson in a job ) should not be a big deal . Just because the bumbling buffoon says it’s ok shouldn’t be a green light , it should actually be a warning to us all .

He may be a buffoon in your opinion, I admit he behaves like one at times, however he has to tread a fine line between trying to keep the country safe from the virus and with the media winding up the population as to not needed lockdown and tiers, outright rioting is a very imminent threat with some of the idiots about, doesn't take much to change from raves and mask protests to a full blown riot. The wider view is not one for the media they are there to create viewing and sales figures by winding up the population and claiming they destroyed the government, it's been claimed before rightly or wrongly my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Lets be serious for a minute, none of us has the "full facts" including those in charge, most statistics are weeks behind the real situation. They (and I include Boris, Nicola, Mark and Arlene in this) are hopefully doing there best of a seriously bad situation. There are no right answers, only ones that do less harm in one direction while doing more harm in others.

History can be made to show that they all made bad decisions, the good decisions will be forgotten, Would you want to be in their shoes? Better some decision that is aimed at least damage, than hesitation because at this point hesitation kills. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Thinking of the situation that those placed in government find themselve to be in, I recall the modified Land Rover that used to perform in the arena at shows, driving around an obstacle course. The modification was that the seats and controls had the driver facing the rear of the vehicle. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Whatever we might think about Boris Johnson we need to think ourselves very very lucky that Corbin didnt become PM instead as I dread to think how he and his gang of merry idiots would have coped with the Covid crisis Rolling Eyes

Running up £400bn of government debt is something that the Labour Party could only have dreamt about. Corbyn would have had a melt down if faced with the reality of actually spending that much although Diane Abbot would have helped him with the maths. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

They would have spent that on a fleet of buses for London that run on water and fairy dust, unfortunately they are still awaiting delivery from the Prince in Nigeria that promised a three month turn around...... Regards

Students are now apparently returning from Uni and you can't help but wonder that the numbers will start to show an increase if they don't behave.
BBC were at Hull Uni this morning where students were being tested before leaving; just a couple of hours wait for their results and they were off. However, some declined the test, saying they'd go home and get tested there . . . yeah right.

Not a lot to ask, even of a student, given the present state of affairs surely? Get a bloody test before you travel. One student said she'd not bothered as she was heading to a tier 3 area so would have to isolate there. It was a 400 mile journey home, not getting out the car on the way there? Censored
