Time for a service, was thinking of doing it myself given its not a biggie, are there any useful links that cover what should be included as a basic service, i was thinking, oil, oil filter, air filter and possibly fuel filter. I have home serviced vehicles before but easy stuff like little toyotas etc

Its a 3.2 i6 Petrol, 2007

I too have transmission problems at the moment, but am frightened to ask for help due to your responses.
I thought that when I joined this forum that there would be no descrimination ?
Reading many links..............you have quiried......asking for why, what, when.....in a sumwhat beligerant manner... many relipes ?
Please help us "lesser informed " individuals instead of telling us to use the search button........ as we can not always find the answer.
I have owned ( many cars ) and haave found that most owners sites to be helpful. You seem to be a prolific poster, but most of your posts seem to be questioning / derogaratory or inflamatory..................why not just help ?
No offence or otherwise intended.................but I thought this comunity was her to help others ( amongst other things ) .
Please change your approach................and if you have some input in to the situation, back it up with factual info..............rather than getting up your post numbers by irrelevent posts

Miles, 125,000 kms, have had it serviced at the LR specialist for the last 4 years, but was going to try and save a few $$ on this round

There appears to have been a misunderstanding here, a misinterpretation based on what has been read on a screen.

I think it's pretty clear that Jules WAS helping, pointing towards the workshop manual and saying come back if there are more questions.

Unless I've missed it in tte above posts I diid not see any mention of the pollen filler (also called cabin filter) I change mine annually. (I use the charcoal impregnated type it removes smells as well as pollen and dust particles)

That is a good point.

Don't forget to change the cabin air filter. (Change it every oil service according to Land Rover)

I've been replacing mine about every two years. (every other oil change)

Two years is the recommendation for the Engine Air filter.

And I would argue that the engine air filter gets more air flowing thru it and it is in a harsher environment.

The link that I posted above did include the cabin air filter.


3.2 I6 Common items for high mileage Land Rovers and Volvos

Here is the list of Maintenance items from Land Rover and/or Volvo

Factory recommended maintenance

A. Fluids
- Engine oil (6 months/ 7500 miles)
- Automatic transmission fluid (10 years / 150,000 miles)
- Brake Fluid (every 2 years, harsh use)
- Engine coolant (Every 10 years)
- Gear oil for power transfer angle gear (10 years /150,00 miles)
- Gear oil for rear differential (10 years /150,00 miles)

B. Filters
- Oil filter (6 months/ 7500 miles)
- Engine air filter (12 months/ 15000 miles)
- cabin air filter(Volvo: Every 20,000 miles)

C. A tune up
- Replace spark plugs (every 75,000 miles)

D. Replace items due to wear out
- Serpentine belt and pulleys (5 years / 75,000 miles in harsh use, 105,000 miles normal use)

PS I am sticking with my 24 month cabin air filter replacement and I am instead doing the other items shown in the link that Land Rover overlooked (Haldex, Automatic Transmission, Power steering fluid, Power Transfer Unit, Rear Differential)
