steering column lock fault

Can anyone help ?... My steering lock is playing up again on my Freelander 2... i have taken off cleaned and greased etc worked for a few month and now back at it again, unit off column and even now still same prob clinking relay form under passenger seat and steering column lock fault in LCD display, I can see with lock off actual lock not disengaged.. hence no engine start ...been told last time you cant fit second hand unit, as its coded to car, hence i need to buy a new unit and get garage to program to ECU ..very expensive ...any one got a work around or suggestion to fix this ...seems to be a common issue

If you can live without the lock, then disable it from CCF and way you go.

Alex's solution is the best idea. If you don't have the access to an indy w/programming ability, the personal knowledge, software, hardware, supply charger and must have "brown pants" Rolling with laughter , this has gotten solid reviews:

You would need to find an independent garage or forum member who had a Pro Gap IID tool or Nanocom or similar to edit the Car files (CCF) to remove the lock function. Thumbs Up
