2012 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Right it is done here is what I did

If you have a roof rack get a piece of ply to put on the rack as you will need it. I could not open the door by pulling the door handle with the broom handle as the steering wheel is right in the way. So plan B duct taped the fob to the nail and tried a few times to get it into it docking port. Fob was only lightly taped to the nail so not to interfere with docking port and to have a little movement. The alarm does go off but when you close the door the alarm stops but indicators continue to flash. Got it into the port a slight push of the stick, radio screen light up the misses pressed the other fob and opened the door. And that was how I got in.

Plan B has to be parking with the driver’s door tight to the garage wall with entry and egress through the pax door

Good effort though Freelander Marto... glad your ingenuity got the problem solved without resorting to window smashing etc.

Presumably the cars with dock-less keyfobs don’t present quite the same 'deep sleep' challenge?

As an aside to this and a lesson to the rest of us, it's always worth checking that your "emergency lock" does actually still work and is not seized up through lack of use.

A quick squirt of WD40 into the lock and a turn of the key once in a while could potentially save a lot of hassle in the future.

I must be missing something here but how did you get the broom handle into the car?

Incidentally on my MY14 FL2 I had a lock failure and and couldn't get the cover off the emergency keyhole in the passenger door handle (instructions were in the car!) then found that if you hold the key fob button down for a few seconds then all the windows open which helps... 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I think he reached down from the roof to unlock the pax door with the key blade and got the door open just enough to feed a broom handle in as far as the keyfob dock but not enough to reach right across the car to hook the driver’s door lock from inside the car. ???

Wouldn’t that depend on the car not being in a deep sleep. I am sure that like docking the keyfob to wake the car up on the earlier cars, the proximity of the dock-less keyfob on later cars would wake the car up and thus allow the windows to open as you describe.

WD-40 is a water-displacement agent and penetrating oil.
GT85 is a trademark owned by WD-40 used for a variety of products. The “maintenance spray” is one of those “contains teflon” oils. ... GT85 is primarily a lubricant whose other features derive from its lubricating properties.
