The only thing necessary is to put a pair of tyres on an axle . The Fl2 does not have fixed split ratio mechanical centre differential like a Subaru for example . , it can’t “ spool up “ .

TBH, the fronts are new as of today, the rears are shot (1mm off the wear strip) and i'll get 2 more tyres next month to replace them, but just didnt want to cause any damage in the meantime... |

Mismatched tyres were certainly Freelander 1 killers but of course, the Freelander 1 has a totally different drivetrain.

If you're considering one set of axle tyres this month and a second set next month, why the hell not get all four done in one go with all wheels checked for balance and alignment in one visit??? Are you really trying to eek out one millimetre over a month? |

BS! Calculate the % difference of rolling diameter when you have lost a few mm of rubber. Run the rear tyres a few PSI higher if you are still worried. Perhaps financially buying all 4 in one month is a stretch, easier to spread the cost over 2 pay cheques? I remembered reading this from a few years ago, which includes some comments from Bell Engineering, about haldex coupling symptoms and possible causes.

Quite simply YES. The FL2 does not have permanent 4WD. It is a FWD car where the rear wheels are not driven and are detached from the prop shaft for the vast majority of road driving. Only when commanded by software are the rear wheel driven via the "on-demand coupling" as JLR call the haldex unit. Jules |
