Okay, I've just had 2 new tyres fitted to the front for winter. All 4 were low but the fronts a tad lower than the rears.

At the tyre place, they were changing a front diff in a 2013 Evogue. the bloke said it was down to tyres?

Theory being new tyre on the front you have a bigger rolling rad than the old ones on the back.. so the connection diff does not like it and goes pop?

Now, is he taking the P and wanting to sell me some more tyres? or is there something in this?

I thought the FL2 was FWD and only used the rear as required, that said I guess one side of the diff will be going at one RPM and the otherside at another... not sure how the on / off connection works on these?... any thoughts

I did a lot of reading on this when my tyres were low on fronts not so bad on back went for 4 new ones plenty of online deals now.

The only thing necessary is to put a pair of tyres on an axle . The Fl2 does not have fixed split ratio mechanical centre differential like a Subaru for example . , it can’t “ spool up “ .

I’ve just put a pair of Pirelli’s on the front of the FL2 , as the rears were replaced last year . Next month I’ll put all 4 on the Subaru , which gets tyres rotated every 6k to even the wear out . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

TBH, the fronts are new as of today, the rears are shot (1mm off the wear strip) and i'll get 2 more tyres next month to replace them, but just didnt want to cause any damage in the meantime...

Mismatched tyres were certainly Freelander 1 killers but of course, the Freelander 1 has a totally different drivetrain.

On the Freelander 2 though, it is not so critical.

If you're considering one set of axle tyres this month and a second set next month, why the hell not get all four done in one go with all wheels checked for balance and alignment in one visit??? Are you really trying to eek out one millimetre over a month?

neither... I picked them up on my BMW motorbike... so could only get 2 at once

And my mate gets them from Europe in his wagon so can only get so many... but for £60 each for Goodyear Wrangler M+S its worth waiting....

Tyreleader.com did me a deal on Bridgestones for £80 a corner 👍 ATS for the identical tyre were £130

I remembered reading this from a few years ago, which includes some comments from Bell Engineering, about haldex coupling symptoms and possible causes.

(I think the tyre wear problems where on the FL1 which had a physical mechanical control of locking up the centre drive clutch.

The FL2 has electronic control of that (Haldex) inter-axle clutch, so should not have problems if unit is serviceable.)

PS I have just changed out all 4 tyres, as the original ones lasted 50k miles and 6 years, I thought it not worth playing around trying to get the last few miles from the least worn tyre(s). - and safer too! FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

this is the end of the second set and I'm at 95K... these are great tyres, never had any issue and last for ever

TBH, I'm selling the car next year... new tyres, and remainder of LR warranty... its wanted for nothing... and the place who does my service always ensure I get the value of the warranty...; near mint condition also.
Have loved my FL2... no idea what to get next??
