I remember these multi function roundabouts from the 1960s. I was stationed on the German-Dutch borders for several years.

Well, that was why the roads were built in the first place. Many are thousands of years old and cars, as we know them, will drive on them for a fraction of that time. Bicycles revolutionised society - allowing people to travel miles further than they could walk in the same time - long before cars became affordable to the average person. Drivers and cars cause thousands of deaths every year through collisions and pollution. Maybe cars should be banned. - oh I see the Gov is slowly doing that - exclusion from cities and pricing them out of general affordability Jules |

If cyclists wish to use the public highway then make it compulsory to have some form of insurance - if nothing else it gives every other road user the opportunity to claim against them. As it is now there's little chance, short of taking a private action, of recouping money for anything they're involved in be it an accident or damage to your vehicle when they charge past |

The local horse riders are already taking over the local roads, and like some cyclists are ignoring paths reserved for them and are using the roads for other purposes than travelling from A to B.

I have a friend who lives in NZ, and it is not compulsory to have car insurance, never mind a cyclist having insurance !!!
