My 2013 Freelander has started to experience a complete loss of power when pulling away from junctions or trying to overtake cyclists.
The problem only started happening after I had a full big service and had my water pump and timing belt, as well as a tensioner pulley replaced to stop a rattle at idol. It also only happens when the temperature is mid 20c and above. I sent it back to the indie garage after the service and they ran some diagnostics and could see that the fuel temperature sensor was reading high 90c so they went ahead and replaced the sensor. All has seemed fine up until now, as it hasn't been that hot, but now the temperature has cranked up outside my car is suffering again. It's really unnerving when you try and pull away from a junction and your foot is flat to the floor and your car literally crawls along until you're about half way across the road and then it revs up and you start pulling away.
I've read similar issues but none quite match my symptoms. Does anybody have any suggestions on what might be causing this please?

Assuming the car was running fine before the service, then one cant help but think something got bu99ered up during the recent service.

There has been lots of similar issues with non genuine fuel filters being fitted. When the engine is running the fuel circulates round the filter and the unused fuel is returned to the tank. A valve within the filter helps to control the temp of the fuel. On non genuine filters this can be problematic and cause the fuel to run hot causing lack of power and in extreme cases cause the engine to cut out. I would check the filter and if non genuine would change it for a genuine Land Rover part. Good luck!

I had exactly the same problem. Turned out to be the crankcase sensor being faulty. Replaced it and no more problems

Thanks for your replies and suggestions.

With the non genuine fuel filter, does it seem plausible it would play up more when it's really hot outside. One case it happened was when the outside temperature was 30c, I'd driven for about 30mins without an issue I believe. Left the car for about an hour, turned off but when I came to reverse back to leave, i had no power then and that's after the car had been stationary for an hour. Does this still sound like a fuel filter issue please?

The fuel filter is a cheap option to try and as you say it was ok before the service. Also high fuel temp has already been discovered previously. Chances are that the sensor was reading correctly and was not faulty. Having said that it is always good to have any fault codes read if possible before forking out for a lot of possibly expensive parts.

I have just done a full service on my f/l using genuine Land Rover filters and can confirm that the OEM fuel filter make is Purflux.

I've checked the filter and believe it to be non genuine (see photo below). Am I correct in saying the genuine fuel filter should have Purflux stamped at the bottom left, of the top face?

Not disputing the fact that original parts are best, but, does that mean that a Land Rover stamped fuel filter is better than a Bosch made fuel filter, seems strange that Bosch would make an inferior part.
