FL2 2009 towbar Enabling (Wiltshire area)

Hi there,

Anyone near Marlborough Wilts that could enable the tow bar option in the ECU on my 2009 FL2?
I have an aftermarket towbar fitted and will be fitting genuine land rover tow module and wiring (if I can find them!).

I’m after a plug and play route so I can unwired the scotch locked 7pin socket.

Cheers

Rich

Last year I fitted a Witter tow bar to my 2008 FL2 but found that the genuine LR cable harness and trailer module was no longer available although some online dealers still showed it at a very hefty price.

In the end I opted for a vehicle specific cable harness and trailer module from P F Jones (from whom I bought the tow bar) and installing it was a simple plug and play job. With this harness, the trailer warning light came on on the dashboard and the car's fog lights are disabled but the reversing sensor still came on. Adding the trailer module using SDD fixed that.

Cheers Simon. I saw those in my searches. I will keep it in mind if I can’t get the LR kit.

I’d have to say the PF Jones harness is very good quality and all the connectors fit perfectly.

Cheers guys. Do I still need the option enabled to get the icon on the dash?

No, the trailer icon comes up on the dash without getting the trailer module added via SDD. The only thing that doesn’t work properly is the rear parking sensor which beeps as soon as you select reverse gear. But as the switch to switch it off is close to the gear lever it’s not a major problem.

Out of curiosity, what cable harness did you opt for?

I ended up getting the genuine JLR one.
I bought the used components separately:
JLR Tow module £40
JLR dual 7 plug harness £36
Fuses £2

Coding £60

Good value. Did you need the dual 7 pin setup rather than the more modern 13 pin one?

Yeah, I have an older caravan with twin electrics, plus the 7pin wiring seems more commonly available used.
