No throttle when put into gear

OK, chaps and chapesses, this one has me flummoxed.

I've been getting the occasional stall when starting the car and immediately putting it into gear. I've gotten around this by letting the car idle for a few seconds then putting into gear. I'd highlighted the throttle body in my mind and will be checking it soon.

This has now turned into (occasionally) when putting the car into gear, the battery light comes on, the revs drop, and there's no throttle response to me mashing the accellerator pedal. The engine is idling, and the car will roll in gear under idle, but i have no control of the revs. If I put her back into park, and into gear again, this sometimes fixes it. If i sit on the brake and just wait, the battery light will turn off after 15secs or so, and the revs will come back up and i have my throttle back.

I've replaced the camshalf sensor, while this fixed my pulsing revs at idle problem, it didn't fix this.

I've replaced my fuel filter, and while engine is running lot smoother, still no change to this or the stall.

I've got EGR codes coming up, but i've had a blanking plate fitted for ages now with zero problems. Can the valve still cause issues even after blanking?

Sounds very similar to this post, with a couple of differences. This was put in the '2011 hesitation issue' box, and while I've got a 2007, I have had an engine replacement so it isn't impossible it was a 2011 donor.

The battery light is the interesting one for me - if my aux belt is slipping or one of my pulleys is slowing the system down, would this cause stalls/no throttle? Or would the light being on just be from low revs and alternator not charging at desired level?

Any thoughts at all, throw it at me please!

You need a software update for the engine ECU. Search for SSM48697.

Thanks guys, apriciate the responses. As usual I think Alex wins the cuddly toy for now as that sounds spot on... But will be sure to update with what ensues.

there is a software fix for this , but check your brake lights first. have you changed a brakelight bulb ?
throttle is designed to be cut when the brakes are applied. Any defective bulbs have been known to cause throttle cut.
galaxy and Sharans used to be terrible for this fault just caused by brake bulbs either poor quality or faulty Jaguar x-type sport gone

You could try Land Ranger Services - they have several outposts in the NW
https://www.landranger.co.uk/

Have used the guys at Atherton when I had knee replacement, and again after heart bypass, they were helpful, and knowledgeable. The guys in Middlewich had a better stock of spares - intercooler on the shelf. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Probably a bit early to celebrate yet, but MIGHT have been a dodgy connection on the plug connecting to the fuel rail. Cleaned that out and all of those problems have vanished.

Having said that, now i've posted this, I'm sure they'll be back and I'll have to correct myself Smile
