So I went with Michelin Cross Climates on advice of a major LR mag. Great tyre but this is the second set that have worn on the outer edges worse on the front. I know this usually means under inflation but constant checking tyre pressures and they are always spot on. Got full suspension and steering geometry check. That was all good but these tyres are still wearing on the outer edges. Been told to run them at 36 or even 38 psi, but surely that’s not right, besides it does affect the handling. Of note previous to the Michelins I had Good Year All Season XL and they wore evenly.

If you are wearing out the outside edge then get a Tyre that is Asymmetric

I like the Nokian Z-line A/S

I am using them on a few of my cars but not the Freel2 yet

When the time come I plan to switch on the Freel2 as well

I had similar issues with the Cross Climates but really poor wear on the nearside Outer edge. Young chap at the tyre fitters pointed out it was due to the camber we have and lots of roundabouts unfortunately. He had issues with tyres he had fitted and after checking all that may have been a possible cause proved negative. I couldn’t fault the Cross Climates other than shoulder wear and need to change at 26k miles.

Thanks for the info. The Cross Climates are wearing on the inner edge and outter edge at the same rate just like the previous set of Cross Climates. Never run them at low pressure

If you have TPMS you will be surprised just how much tyre pressure changes from a cold winter morning to a hot afternoon after driving for an hour.

My tyres are 32psi, but with the cold mornings lately about 28psi. Summer up around 35psi & with the sun on that side of the car add another 3psi. On corrugated roads I run at 24psi & on sand drop to at least 20psi.

So in winter I inflate them to about 32psi & in summer deflate them to about 32psi.

If you are inflating your tyres to 38psi, they will be about 3psi higher after an hour of driving.

I am on my 3rd FL2 have fitted all makes of tyres over the years & all 3 cars wore the front near side outer edge worse regardless of tyre make.

If you are wearing the outside and the inside edge then you want a tyre that has solid ribs in the area that is wearing prematurely

This tyre is the opposite of what you want

If you watch F1 you will see that you picked an Extreme Wet Tyre and as soon as the heavy rain stops you need to pull into the pits and change to intermediate Tyres





Instead you want something more like this

The red areas on the inside and outside are what you are looking for

Near side front tyre wearing on outer edge are caused normally by roundabouts. both fronts tyres wearing on outside Normally
tracking toeing in Tyres wearing on inside toeing out.joints can also wear tyres .

Russian made Nokians.................that's kinda disturbing! I once bought Hercules for a previous 4X4 and they were fine upto about 50% left and then they were pure garbage. I really like the Nokian brand but have shifted away from them as they are a premium priced brand.
