I get 36.2 from my 2011 manual HSE , hardly alters very much.

My 2013 TD4 Auto seems to show 30.2 mpg what ever type of journey were on.

My 2014 SD4 shows 34mpg average on the display over several thousand miles - probably less than that in reality, I havent worked out brim to brim figurs in some time, might just do that next fill. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

My 2007 SE gets 33.6 around the town & on a run to the coast (about 120 miles) it manages 37.5. I try & drive it steady & don't have a heavy foot.

Given the size & comfort I have I am happy with that.

I also have a VW Caddy Maxi van (2016 reg) which I use mostly around the town running the Mrs back & forth to work, I get 45 mpg around town & 55 on a longer run, thats all very nice but obviously its not got the comfort & power of my Freelander. I just use it as my run about which is fine for me.

Before we got into Freelanders we had several Discos . The last was the most economical - a TD5 Disco 2 which did 27mpg at best - JLR said it could do 30mpg but I never saw that. Jules

This is very interesting.

The 6 cylinder Petrol Engine has Variable Valve timing and Variable Valve lift on the intake side.

From the Manual: By closing the Intake valve early at low load and low engine speed reduced fuel consumption is achieved.

Note: The Low engine speed (RPM) seems to be about 1800 RPMs

1800 RPM's in 6th gear is 58 MPH (93 KPH)

From the graph this seems to be the maximum speed to keep the engine in the fuel efficient region #3

It would be very interesting to collect the following information

6th gear [1800 RPM] (90 KPH / 55 MPH) Consumption ???? L / 100 KM (Region #3 on graph)

5th gear [2200 RPM] (90 KPH / 55 MPH) Consumption ???? L / 100 KM (Region #3 -->#4 on graph)

4th gear [3000 RPM] (90 KPH / 55 MPH) Consumption ???? L / 100 KM (Region #4 -->#5 on graph)

3rd gear [4000 RPM] (90 KPH / 55 MPH) Consumption ???? L / 100 KM (Region #5 on graph)


I will try to collect this information if possible

And I will convert to L / 100 KM to avoid confusion between US and UK Gallons

The calculated fuel consumption shown on the instrument panel should work fine for this

I calculate the torque needed to make 27 Horsepower
(My estimate of what it takes to over come rolling losses and aerodynamic drag at 100 KPH)

The Red Line on the graph below shows how the required torque drops as RPMs increases

The Ford 2.0L petrol engine is 2000rpm at 100kph 6th gear. Not sure of the other gears at present. With the larger 255/60R18 tyres the speedo is now only 2kph under. So Car 100, GPS 98.

The wider tyres & probably because they are all terrain has increased fuel consumption a bit.

But purchasing a Freelander to simply drive around the city & complain about fuel efficiency one needs their head read! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I didn't realize that you own the 2.0T

As for the Gearing it looks like your gearing is the same as the 3.2

I think I've stuffed up, 2000rpm at 110kph sounds more like it. It's October last year since I've done that. With fire, hail, plague, flood, coastal erosion the car has been sitting in the garage, only 689km since October.

When one has all this crap on the roof it's like adding a parachute to a brick.

Then I could only find 2 petrol engines left. One a few km away, the petrol engine only comes as an SE in Australia, it had a lot of extras, Ipanema Sand colour was ok but I did not want burn your ar_e black seats or the 19 inch rims. The other was a 5 hour drive west, was white with almond upholstery. It was a MY13 but the person who originally ordered it couldn't get finance & it was sitting on the shelf. We bought it in effect new at the end of 2014 without finance. Caught a train, took our back packs, picked up the car & had our first camping trip in it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I can only dream of that! I’m getting around 25mpg but that’s driving around town with loads of traffic lights and roundabouts (we seem to have a town that loves roundabouts) and a commute of 7 miles. My commute gives me around 30mpg which is nice though When towing the caravan, which is always a long journey I’ll get 22. My monthly fuel bill doesn’t concern me just yet though as I just love to drive my freely!
