Hi, I am totally confused re which ATF to use in my Freelander2 SD4 auto 190bhp for a fluid change. It is a 2011 so looking through previous posts it is in the change over period. Can anybody help me as to which non Land Rover oil to use?

3324 is correct for a 2014 model - I think the change over was about 2009 but you can put 3324 in a earlier box - its a higher spec than the 3309 and compatible. Jules |

Jules, I have two cars that use 3309 and one that uses 3324 Look at this graph for more information I don't mix the fluids

It's a little bit of marketing here with that "not interchangeable".... Why buy an older oil when you can buy a newer and expensive one...

3309 and 3324 are both WS ATFs Perhaps the reason for two different oil specs (3309/3324) for the same gearbox is because maybe 3324 did not exist during the time of the earlier gearboxes. Mobil offer a 3309 and 3324 ATF https://www.mobil.ca/en-ca/lubricants/for-...r-products The data sheets indicate they are, not surprisingly, very similar; with the 3324 being a bit less viscous presumably to reduce friction and improve economy. I put 3309 in my 2014 Sd4. Its perfectly happy and changes beautifully. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Jules, If you look at what Ravenol offers you will find RAVENOL ATF T-IV Fluid --> meets 3309 or RAVENOL ATF T-WS Lifetime --> meets 3324 Having wrote that I concede that Alex found the best information. Bob, You might be on to something here, perhaps the 3309 is the better choice. The only risk appears to being labeled a Luddite. You aren't still using a rotary dial telephone are you? Great discussion Take care Paul |
