Spain

OK, the car has just had its service, I went with the Pemco iMatic 450 JWS3309. €40 delivered from Germany.
Filter kit, Oil, air, fuel and cabin €50 delivered from Autodoc
Coolant and brake fluid change
diff/transfer fluid change
2 new tyres

All in, my local garage charged me €300
€390 in total didn't seem too steep.

Also, a month or so ago the same mechanic added me an extra earth strap as discussed on here. Not a single fault code when he checked whilst he had it in. Thumbs Up

Hi, I am totally confused re which ATF to use in my Freelander2 SD4 auto 190bhp for a fluid change. It is a 2011 so looking through previous posts it is in the change over period. Can anybody help me as to which non Land Rover oil to use?
Chassis number is SALFA2AE4BH251517

Hi

I have been looking at doing a auto transmission fluid change on my 2014 model 2.2 diesel, which ATF to use appears to be a bit of a mine field, It is my understanding, and I stand to be corrected on this, that after 2011 the specification was changed to a AW-1 with JWS 3324 (not JWS3309) rating, I contacted a number of ATF manufactures and they confirmed that it should meet AW-1 JWS3324 specification.

3324 is correct for a 2014 model - I think the change over was about 2009 but you can put 3324 in a earlier box - its a higher spec than the 3309 and compatible. Jules

Hi all
hope you are keeping well I have been browsing through old posts from the last couple of years and see this one ref ATF3309 and the products from different suppliers still seems to be relevant well I guess it would as we still need to keep our Freelanders fettled Wink
Just an update on the ATF3309 from Smith and Allen it has now been over 2 years since I did the deed also did a mates fl2 and there have been no issues what so ever I will mention that the slight "sigh" sometimes heard between changes has gone (either that or the stereo is too loud Whistle
Cheers to all

Jules,

I have two cars that use 3309 and one that uses 3324

Look at this graph for more information

I don't mix the fluids

It's a little bit of marketing here with that "not interchangeable".... Why buy an older oil when you can buy a newer and expensive one...

Read below - it's a google translate, but you'll get the idea. The presenter it's from the manufacturer (AISIN) company.

https://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/user...change.pdf

Conclusions, drawn by the box's manufacturer:
1. T-IV and T-WS can be mixed. But if you can find the oil and stick to the norm, better, but they are interchangeable.
2. Partially change the ATF each 2 services or 20.000 Km, therefore an approximate full change will be done in about 100.000 Km.
And to be honest, at the price of the oil, I am following this schedule and the changes are smoother than a baby's but.

Even, if AISIN is branding an oil of its own, see that they say: "use whatever you can find, not necessarily our's, but use a good oil producer and stick with these two norms, not other ones".

3309 and 3324 are both WS ATFs
Perhaps the reason for two different oil specs (3309/3324) for the same gearbox is because maybe 3324 did not exist during the time of the earlier gearboxes.

Mobil offer a 3309 and 3324 ATF
https://www.mobil.ca/en-ca/lubricants/for-...r-products

The data sheets indicate they are, not surprisingly, very similar; with the 3324 being a bit less viscous presumably to reduce friction and improve economy. Jules

Jules,

If you look at what Ravenol offers you will find

RAVENOL ATF T-IV Fluid --> meets 3309

or

RAVENOL ATF T-WS Lifetime --> meets 3324

Having wrote that I concede that Alex found the best information.

Bob,

You might be on to something here, perhaps the 3309 is the better choice.

The only risk appears to being labeled a Luddite.

You aren't still using a rotary dial telephone are you?

Great discussion

Take care

Paul
