If that is the case you 100% do not want to buy a DPF model, you would be better off looking for a John Deere tractor.

Think I look a bit silly parking the tractor at Asda, John Deere probably cost more than a fl2 Very Happy Going to have to actively start looking .

Just need something decent to get up down track in winter months and to the shops

Good for you . There is a lot of life left in a ten or 12 year old Diesel engine given the average miles driven in the U.K. The 160ps engine fitted to the earlier car is a good one . If it’s had a 10 year cam belt change , it won’t be the engine that causes the car to go to the great scrapyard in the sky . The non DPF motor is definitely the one to go for if you want a local commuter. As far a price goes don’t pay too much . You should be a able to get a mechanically sound car in the £3 -£5k range . One other thing , I’d go for the auto every time on the Freelander . I certainly would not put a lot of money into an any old diesel car at the moment as anything under euro 6 is potentially going to attract “clean air zone charging” in cities that are looking at this . You could also do a lot worse than looking for a low mileage 08 on Forester or Legacy Outback , both those cars will fulfil your needs have petrol or diesel options and are legendary for reliability . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . Best Car I ever owned !

2023 Toyota Hilux invincible X 2.8 Auto .

With the limited miles you're planning a diesel maybe doesn't make sense at all? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

id agree with bobupanddown

If you really are doing that shorter trips how about an old Discovery 2 with the 2.0 16v MPi engine would be cheap as chips
or V8 Discover 2 or even Discovery 3 V8 petrol

or just go and buy a Dacia 4x4 if you need a 4x4

My Neighbour who has a very late Discovery with the dreaded eniquim engine curses his Disco, cost him a fortune in oil changes and regens, so far 3 in a year on top of a service, been out and bought a Dacia a year ago, been 100% reliable and says much better to drive.

Or look at a Kia Sorrento or Sportage. Had one on hire for several weeks in Iceland, absolutely brilliant and was questioning why I have a Landrover ! In the Ice and snow I reckon the Kia was outstanding although it was fitted with Studded tyres.

Just one example of a Petrol and yes its an import ( less rust ) https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ad...radius=150 Jaguar x-type sport gone

Thought it was the freelander that was only good thing LR made

While most days it’s just a short commute, will be doing fortnightly trips to Newcastle 100 mile each way

Still don’t want a dpf or that start stop stuff

Will start looking how often is services I know 10 yrs is big service, does road tax vary on them much depending on yr
