Electric handbrake probs.

Hi have looked at the search history for my problem with no joy, so here goes, my lecky handbrake does not always release automatically as it should on gradients, seems fine on the flat, anybody out there had this problem?, manually releasing it seems okay. cheers.

The FL2 has gradient/tilt sensing. and should not roll immediately on foot brake release, when on a hill.

Is this the problem.

Can be annoying sometimes if trying to roll back into a space. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Thanks very much for these useful replies, it will be a lot easier not using my EHB at traffic lights & such I think.

I recently replied on a question of Auto or Manual.

my reply was "manual ! -------- as YOU drive the car not some box of bits, programmed to 'try' and do it for you.
also don't go for the electric handbrake -------- you decide the biting point ---- its easy."

If you have auto gearbox, you don't really need to use a handbrake ever.

It does annoy drivers behind you in stationary traffic at night though using footbrake. Twisted Evil

A strange reply to an EPB specific question from somebody with a manual FL2 with an EPB. Question

Yeah Reggie that baffled me too, mine is manual & the brake lights bothering folk behind is the reason I used the handbrake at lights.

I was always taught to use the handbrake when at standstill. If you’re sat with your foot on the brake and you are rear ended you’ll probably lift your foot and be shunted into a vehicle in front.

A handbrake will not stop your car hitting the car in front if shunted from the rear. Laughing

I rarely see anyone using a handbrake, and it's usually the car in front rolling backwards.

I agree, the original post about the Handbrake is most likely the hill assist, used to cause havoc with a caravan on the rear on a steep hill. just need to wait a fraction longer
Also its better to use the HB than sit with your foot on the brake, especially with an Auto as when your stationary by holding your foot on the brake you are transferring heat from the discs to the pads but in one spot. Excessive heat can cause the resins and binders to melt in the pad material causing judder and squealing. Jaguar x-type sport gone
