United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Barolo Black
fuel cap wont open

hi all my boot and fuel flap would not open on my fl2 so replaced switch in handle but cap still will not open any ideas please thanks in advance

Did you check the fuse F25 in passenger compartment? It's for tailgate and fuel filler flap.

Then it should be the flap actuator malfunctioned.

You have to service from outside, remove the wheel and arch liner and you will be able to reach the actuator.You can refer the Technical Service Bulletin LTB00292.

The problem is usually that the plunger that springs up to lock the flap is sticking . Force the flap open ,taking care not to break It of course , plenty of WD40 and wiggling and all will be ok .

Going off at a slight tangent, guy pulled alongside me in the petrol station a few days ago, pulled on the fuel cap lever and the fuel flap just catapulted off, albeit attached to the cable Laughing Think it was simply a case that the hinge had broken as it took him a while refitting it all afterwards, amused me though.
