Power steering leak

Well what can I say, started this job at 8:00am today gave up at 3:30pm with still a small piece of pipe stuck in the steering rack. I will have another go tomorrow but let me just add this is not a simple job torx bolt rusted would not move, I cut the pipes to gain better acces to the bolt hence the one bit left in. What a stupid design to put a bolt in like that, I will replace with hexagonal bolt just in case I need to do it again. I haven’t even tried separating the main pipes to the pump and reservoir so that could be new hoses if it does not go well.
Has anyone got any tips on how to remove the stub of pipe out of the rack please

All I can add to that Satwelsh is I feel your pain.

I have also had problems with the Censored car.

Hope someone jumps in with some help. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I know it's not the same as what you are doing but have just replaced the pressure hose from the pump to it's junction with the lower metal pipe and used a pair of round headed hose pliers to grip the rubber ring and push the pipe off. Easy job with the pliers.

I have ordered that hose today because I couldn’t separate them, I have managed to do the one from the reservoir and the pipes into the rack. I will post some pics tomorrow of my thousands of pieces that I had to cut them into to get them out. Changed the torx for a normal nut, all cleaned and ready for the hose from the pump to the rack pipe and hopefully that should be it. I would have put it in the garage if we weren’t in lockdown but as there is no rush because we are working from home I thought I would give it a go.

I have dug up a link to the pliers I used to release the connection of the hose from the PSP to the feed pipe into the rack. I just grabbed the rubber seal with the smallest pliers and pushed up to release. Judging from the problems people have had with this connector they are worth every penny.

Yes I have thanks .........................I was advised by the parts guy to buy the double pipework if changing the top pressure hose because most people call back a few days later for the double pipework because they can't separate the two lines. As I have said I found it very very easy using the round pliers. I just gripped the bottom of the rubber seal and pushed up.

Adding I did practice a dry run on the new pipes first.

Hi could you describe a bit more exactly how I separate the pipe from the rubber hose. Many thanks Mark.
