2014 freelander 2 sd4 timing belt kt

Hi Guys im looking for some info, my freelander 2 is due a timing belt change, should i buy a genuine kit or after market kit there is a big difference in the price.
I usually fit genuine parts.
Any feedback welcome

I recently fitted a Gates kit (belt, tensioner & water pump) myself which was ordered off Ebay for about £82 plus you need the locking tools which is another £25 -£30.

After much reading & looking at YouTube I found doing the job easier than anticipated and very satisfying once complete.

I also did the aux belt while I was there, again a Gates kit bought off Ebay.

Well worth doing yourself as you then know it is done correctly & to your standards.

PS the belt I took off which i assume was the original was branded Gates as I'm pretty sure JLR don't make rubberized belt products.

Cheers
Brian 😎

I did this job last Friday on mine .I usually go with gates but this time went for a Dayco belt and waterpump kit for around £80 . I guess you only find out the true reliability a few years down the line but I was impressed with the overall quality, the pump looked well machined, the gasket was perfect and parts were stamped made in Italy, there is also a great fitting guide online by Dayco specific for the freelander . One piece of advice make sure you get a really well fitting socket and a good strong ratchet /Bar to undo and retighten the crank bolt ,mine was an absolute pig to remove new one comes with thread lock on it .

Gates & Dayco are both top notch, I got a Dayco kit & auxiliary belt for less than £ 100.
