TOTAL FAILURE OF DASHBOARD AND ALL INSTRUMENTS *SOLVED*

Evil or Very Mad
Whilst driving my 08 FL2 home from work there was a short beep from the dashboard and every single instrument on the dashboard stopped working. absolutely nothing works. the engine still runs but seems sluggish. The indicator lights dont light on the dash but do work outside the car. It starts and stops OK and the alarm light still flashes on the dash when you lock the doors.
Strangely the radio and clock are still working.
Ive checked all the fuses in all 3 fuses boxes and couldnt find anything blown but still nothing on the dashboard.
Anyone got any idea as to whats up with it?

Oh dear, sounds like a software crash to me,the system is canbus run which means that its functions are computer controlled. I suspect that they will just reboot the system but thats not gonna tell you what caused it in the first place. Keep a little black book and write every thing down and when it happened with dates etc just incase it keeps happening, you cant beat having records of faults, you never know when you might need them

Problem sorted:-
in the passenger foot well there are some plugs and sockets - the grey one powers the dashboard and was just pulled enough to break the contacts and isolate everything. I think this was when my passenger streatched out to get his phone out of his jeans pocket, his foot must have put just enough tension of the wiring loom under the carpet to pull the plug out.!
Simple push together and apply a small cable tie to stop it happening again. The AA man said the plug didnt snap together particulary well so the cable tie would hold it in place better.
Job sorted within 30 minutes - many thanks to Landrover Assistance and the AA.

perhaps you could now change the title of your thread to something less alarming, like "plug kicked loose on wiring loom" Laughing At work

Dashboard lioghts not working after a totally flat battery.

Left the lights on overnight on the Freelander 2. I know warning beeps and all. Suffice to say I was not the driver.

Tried to jumpstart but the dash would not light up. I knew the jump starting was working because the radio came back first, then the seats then the windows but the dash would not light up

Eventually after testing all the fuses and reinserting the fuses I found the culprit
Under the passenger foot well in the row of fuses there
Fuse 8 on the top line its the only of its colour a slightly orange / brown fuse
Took it out and reinserted and the dash light up like a Christmas tree. First push of the button and off we went.

Anyway just posting in case someone has a similar issue

Dashboard instrument failure

exactly the same problem , no lights on dash other than alarm light , radio etc worked , indicators headlights all worked just no indication that they were.

Passenger footwell , off with fuse cover , removed fuses F4 and f8 , both in tact , but re- inserted and everything lit up again .

Exactly same issue as Holts in previous post following AA jump starting me after battery couldn’t cope with the minus 4 temperature. Tha AA had gone it its way. I logged on to this site, saw the advice, followed what Holts described in the last post and to my joy it worked a treat. Can’t understand why jump starting/ charging the battery would cause the problem, And secondly why the fuses worked simply after taking them out and reinstalling them. Pleased with the outcome.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much for those who kindly offered the solution to this issue. Today out of the blue my Freelander wouldn’t start. After jump starting the dash display went dead except for a barcode pattern in the central display. I removed the fuse mentioned for a few moments and after replacing all was well again.
Thanks again.
Simon

Dead Dash board

I had a dead dashboard after flat battery tried fuse 8 on reinsertion heard a click and brrr and all is now ok.
#It seems to reset something.
Wish Landrover would publish this simple easy fix it cost them nothing.
Land Rover dealer will not speak to me only offered to charge £180 to put on diagnostics plus time charge to fix.
What a con. Its like handing them an open check.
