Actually quite fun to drive (though I wont ever tell her that ) on windy rural roads - very low centre of gravity - minimal body roll

Weights about 950kg, Part steel- part aluminium body, electric folding metal roof, comfy heated red leather seats, aircon

650cc turbo intercooled 4 cylinder petrol, revs to about 8K, manual 5 speed box.

Unfortunately Diahatsu didnt bother with much underseal and the rear body has rusted badly. Chassis and sub frames are fine though.

Knock one up out of cardboard & when you get it right use the template to get it made in stainless or aluminium (powder coat) at a fabricator. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

We looked at the Copen, the Suzuki Cappuccino and the Nissan Figaro, but she went for the cheapest option - a very low mileage , 1 owner, FSH Ford Puma. First thing I made her do was get it waxoiled underneath. Sadly all she ever did since was fill it with petrol and drive it ,oh and wash it occasionally, so inevitably it's now failed the last few mot's on the dreaded rear end rust. It's a real shame as it's only on 32,000 miles !

On the afternoon before Boris delivered the lockdown speech, I managed to secure the services of Carey's valeting for my car and I've used him several times over the years.

As the weather had become fine and dry, I went for a full exterior valet including machine polish to remove swirls and minor scratches. The car looks fantastic now and the paint is like silk.

Only flip side now is that because its been bone dry for a few weeks, there's a layer of dust coating everything. Not a big issue until we had a rain shower in the early hours of Monday morning which led to the car being covered in spots of dust which looked awful.

So on Monday I washed it myself and all is well again. The layer of dust is back in full swing though.

Bizarrely what we could actually do with to clear the dust properly is an absolute deluge of rain just for one day. Half hearted rain just makes it worse so it needs to be heavy to clear the dust.

Why am I even bothering cleaning the car with the restrictions in place? I'm a key worker so am still attending work on some days but working from home where possible.

I think the dust is worse here because we are close to a building site for a new housing estate. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
