Not much point in going down the hybrid route now since the government is banning them like the rest of ICE cars. Apparently many never use or even unwrap their charging cables. Toyota are doing TV ads on a self charging hybrid, now what is the logic in that?

Also what about the announcement this morning about E10 fuel with 10% ethanol added ? I presume no diesel version and I can see now that tax on non E10 fuel will start to rise. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Sweden has banned those Toyota adverts as being....er....shall we say slightly misleading!

Problem with E10 is an awful lot of vehicles cannot take the fuel without expensive modifications to the fuel system the ethanol at that percentage can degrade seals and components not designed for it, unfortunately many people mis fuel petrol/diesel, can you imagine the problems with a E10 petrol pump alongside and normal petrol pump and the uninformed unwashed public making a choice, especially if the price is reduced at the pump for E10 to encourage use! Regards

David

I tried E10 on my previous car, it could use it. The additional price for 98 was no worse with the additional mileage & longer range. Less frequency filling up was another bonus. Also I had no fuel filter problems with 98. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

This E10 fuel business sounds like a re run of the 1980's leaded/unleaded petrol story and the damage to valve stems etc on older engines. I wonder if the JLR petrol Ingenium engines could cope? This could be a rerun of the Ingenium diesel oil dilution/worn balance shafts story. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Quote from Financial Times:-
Chancellor Rishi Sunak will next week use his Budget to signal the end to a decade of freezes on fuel duty, as he announces a raft of measures intended to help Britain meet its climate change targets.

As the first stage Mr Sunak will scrap the £2.4bn diesel subsidy for users of farming and construction vehicles — part of what government officials say is a wider package of green taxes to help Britain achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

But those close to the Budget preparations have not ruled out the possibility of Mr Sunak also ending the freeze on fuel duty for all motorists next week, or at least foreshadowing the end of a policy dating back to 2010.

Here comes the incentive (or should I say stick) to help persuade us that Electric Cars are the way to go.

Pretty much all new cars should take E10 without an issue, it has been available on the continent for years, it’s older vehicles which have the intolerance. Regards

Great, first a few years ago they take the advantage of red diesel off boating, and now farming.........how will we be able to afford to run the Azimut now?

Red Diesel Scams, is what they are trying to get around.

News recently of a scam in the Birmingham area where Taxi's were using it.

It gets used all over, Her Majesty’s men are often out dipping in Norfolk, not seen any down here yet apart from at the Wadebridge Ag show a couple of years ago when they were stopping anything diesel and looking a bit “worky” on the way out of the car park at the end of the day, there were a fair few lined up having a few details taken down it seemed.

As for the fuelers who “turn a blind eye” and supply normal road vehicles (including taxis, delivery vans etc) they should be done with just as much fervour as the users, take their business licence away, they are doing no one any favours. Regards

First I’ve seen that, maybe a bit harsh but it’s pointless just filling up with DERV to cut the grass as the dye in the tank would tint the duty paid DERV anyway, maybe he should have done that and shown the, a garage pump receipt, I wonder. Regards
