Scotland 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

I’ve found the load space in the FL2 to be its only disappointment. It’s fine if you are using it as a two-seater, but for family use or daily-use with the back seats up, the boot space is pretty limited. By the time I put in all the usual just-in-case emergency crap for normal winter use, there is very little space left, unless you take out the load cover and go higher (using a dog grill to safely pack-out to the roof). Moving directly from the one-ten is going to be challenging - I made the move from 110 to FL2 via a couple of old-style Volvo V40s and the Volvo had more usable space than the FL2.

As mentioned by others above, I’d garage the old LR and look after it!

EDIT: My other load-space gripe is the lack of additional storage spaces in the front! Would it have killed them to engineer in a shelf below the steering wheel or a decent coin-tray somewhere? 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I fitted a small net holder, between the switch bank and the knee airbag. every little helps.

I love my Freelander 2 and I'm never selling mine

If I owned a 2015 Defender I wouldn't sell that either.

Based on the comments from my fellow Freel2 members, I have the following recommendation

1. What will it take for you to keep the Defender and buy a Freel2?

2. Can you buy a high mileage Freel2 and fix all that ails it? (this may take months if you buy a very inexpensive Freel2)

In summary find a way to have both a Defender and a Freel2

Good luck with your decision

Paul

Keep a cover on the socket dodgy when they are vertical, one small coin in there will pop the fuse or worse......wasn’t me it was my Son’s BMW...... Regards

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

Thanks all, and sorry to have gone to ground. Lots of thinking in the background though.

I'd like to keep the 110 but 1) a garage for it isn't realistic and I don't want to see it start corroding (it's immaculate now) and play chase the rust as it gets older. been there with other defenders and time doesn't permit now and 2) the Home Secretary won't sanction it for long family journeys on any high speed roads, so weekend use is limited. It seems a shame to have the sort of money it's worth tied up in something I'm not able to use properly.

So it's D4 or Freelander. just need to get on with deciding!

Have you considered selling the Defender and pooling the money with the FL2 budget and buying a new 110 Defender? 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

The 110 sale proceeds are the FL2 budget (hopefully with some change), sadly. New 110 pricing is waay out of my league, and I would not want to be LR's guinea pig on such a complicated vehicle.

I may be tempted to bank the 110 sale proceeds and wait to see how the new defenders depreciate though!
