Extra Neg cable, Length/lug size

Hi all
I need to make the extra battery negative to the side of the starter motor (cold day today on start up gave a HDC fault for the wife)

I am at work and have lugs and cable.
any one know what length to make it and what size pug holes it is on the battery and on the gearbox bolt?

Cheers

The cable and a well charged battery sorts out a lot of things,I’ve remembered my cables was quite thick and I filed a bit of the plastic battery cover out and refitted the rubber grommet.

A simple quick SEARCH from previous posts found this .....

earth cable

I bought a 36" black 170Amp cable with 8mm and 10mm ring terminals from Ebay for £7.85 delivered.

I attached one end to a threaded hole on the top of the autobox (middle of pic below), as that was easy to get at, and the other end on the earth terminal up behind the battery.

Attaching to a starter motor bolt might be better in theory but its more awkward to get to and the gearbox is in good electrical contact with engine. And the hole is crying out for something Very Happy

If nothing else it’ll stop the gearbox falling out when the mounts fail Rolling with laughter Regards

Yeah........that "trans" hole looks in dire need, so shiny and clean. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Big Cry Whistle

If you think the earth to starter is tricky in the UK's most common diesel engines, for the si6 negative ground to starter bolt is a wee bit challenging......of course, it's likely simply redundant Bow down .

I put the extra earth lead between the batt -ve (surprise, surprise) and a spare bolt on the engine head, this is on the i6 engine.

No idea if it does any good whatsoever but for about £10 why not? Regards

Path of least resistance ........... would be the starter motor fixing bolt. As that is the item you are trying to improve an electrical supply to !

My vehicle had the earth strap already fitted by LR dealer on buying.
