Heater....AGAIN!

Ok can someone tell me definitively how the PTC works?
I had my recall done a week or so ago and today was the first time I tried it for real as it was a cold morning.
Whatever I did (prog button, heater up to high temp on dial etc) it wouldn't get warm until the engine warmed up.

Having said that the mechanic has probably forgotten to replace the fuse they took out last year...... Whistle

HELP

Whip the battery cover off and see if a fuse is attached to one of the battery leads Question

failing that, it'll probably mean a trip back to the stealer Evil or Very Mad

Have found this though:-

Pressing the PROG button brings on the PTC heater and heated rear window on. BUT, have also found that just by turning the aircon on does the same but without the heated rear window.

Seems LR stuck an extra button on the dash for no reason Rolling Eyes ______________________

The PROG button does turn on the front screen heater as well as the rear. But there already is a button for the front heater too. So as far as I can tell, the PROG button does exactly the same as pressing: front heater button; rear heater button; airflow-to-screen button; air volume knob to max.

It may or may not automatically turn the air down after a while, I've never let it run long enough before dialling it back manually.

hi guys the PTC works at lower temps tp warm up the air in the car sooner, its basically a heavy duty version of your heater matrix but instead of coolant flowing through it, its elecrically charged start yor car on a cold morning and you can see the guag still ta cold but warm air is been circulated. hope this helps. richh. they all do that!

That issue was explored by some "field research" carried out by Dave and others somewhere here in the forum.

After having played with all options (Programme button on the dash board, air con on/off) I experienced that the PTC is activated simply by increasing the temperature on the two buttons, it is providing then warm air coming out of the vents already 2 minutes after strating the engine and long before the engine has reached temperature to provide warmth.

The Prog button is the optimum defrost programme and simply enables the best air selection, window heaters etc. as required to do the job. Same as selecting these options manually. FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

snappa,

there many different ways to set up the heater controls, however I would think that any of them should activate the ptc heater. I don't use the 'prog' setting, I choose to operate the system myself, but there is no doubt that the ptc kicks in pretty damned quick after a cold start and you should be feeling 'warm' air within a minute or so of starting. If that isn't happening then I'd get back to the dealer ... Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

Yeah that's what I figured.
Had a look yesterday and the fuse has been replaced so either it's blown or the heater is knacked.

Cheers all. Back to stealer in couple of weeks for seatbelts anyway...... Thumbs Up
