Hi there,

I have the brake system indicator (in red) which lights up briefly (less than 1 second) then switches off, only when I turn a little tight to the right.


Any ideas what could be ?

It might sound silly but have you got enough fluid in the reservoir? I had this years ago on a car and the fluid was low and the float valve sensor was giving false reading when going around corners. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

I would check the switch on the hand break too.

If I were a betting man, I would say low brake fluid, as has been suggested further up

^^^Exactly what he said, low brake fluid would be my first thing to check.

If it appears only when you turn to the right, then check the wires to the ABS speed sensors, for the front wheels.
The manual says that red is for low brake fluid level OR a fault in the Electronic Brake Distribution system.

Well I checked the brake fluid, it's actually in the low mark or a bit lower ...

can I top up with any Dot 4 brake fluid ?

I will change the disks and pads very soon and will check the ABS sensors (a friend of mine has the official LR diag)

Yes Dot 4 fluid is fine for your car. Be careful not to overfill however as when you change the pads you will have to push back the caliper pistons which will bring the fluid level in the reservoir back up and could result in the fluid spilling out and causing a mess. Might be worth changing the fluid at the same time as you are doing the rest of the brakes if it is old/has not been done before.

Top it up with DOT4 to, at the very very least, a few mm above the min mark. I personally would not wait too long to have the brakes serviced. I am making the assumption that the fluid is low because your pads are very low...........?

@MotionInc ... you're right man, my pads are low. I will have brakes serviced this week end hopefully ... Discs and Pads. Prices at LR dealer for genuine parts are outrageous I'll probably go for ATE brand.

Thanks for letting us know.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
