not unknown for tractor drivers to cook their meals on the machines exhaust manifold, I once used my to rewarm my fish and chips , in the days they were wrapped in newspaper , my sister begrudgingly delivered them but arrived early and left them at the field gate. I discovered them cold after 2 hours of moaning to my self about the lazy cow . pre-mobile phone days.

I used one, similar to the above which is a bit more heavy duty on my Disco 1 and Freelander 1. Sadly never took a picture. They were also great for bags of wet clothes from when you got muddy offroading and didn't want the smell of muddy bog water wafting through to car on your 40 mile journey home. As for loading, you spread the weight evenly over the whole bonnet area rather than just in the middle. You'd be surprised how much we got on those bonnets without denting or buckling them. Heaviest single item was a spare wheel |

Now that net I can see being useful and actually properly useable, proper strapping rather than borrowing your naughty aunts Saturday night dress up gear Regards

I only drove with a wheel on the bonnet once, a round trip of probably 90 miles. Weird at first but I had racing bucket seats that gave me a higher sitting position. After a while it was just like driving the many ex-Military Defenders and Lightweights I've had over the years. In fact that was exactly how it felt. Apart from the oversteer with all that weight infront of the steering - going around traffic islands was hair raising ! |
