I am not so sure, the DS is a better car than the FL2, whether it appeals to the Land Rover devotee as much is obviously a no no.
The DS is not the same car, but better to drive and better technology and a sales success......unfortunately the later Diesel engines are an absolute mess.

DiL has had three DS so far from the very first 2.2D to the latest 2D (and now the D5, which is being repaired before she collects her Velar ) , loads of issues with the first, electrics mainly but the last one had been perfect, as has the D5.

If and when the new FL pops up it’ll be different from the DS......  Regards

I would argue against it being a better car; it probably is. But, it just not a direct replacement for the Freelander 2 and certainly doesn’t have the same kind of appeal to many FL2 users.

It’s not dissimilar to marketing the big and rounded new 5 door estate car, that LR launched in 2016, around 6 months after the Disco 4 was withdrawn from production. Choosing to call it an “all new Discovery” was always going to cause some confusion

Sorry but the DS isn’t a patch on the Fl2 or at least the 15MY one wasn’t and the 18MY I had as a loaner wasn’t. Haven’t tried the new one hopefully it’s a vast improvement.

My D5 was a pig, constant service warnings and my Velar hasn’t been much better, no service warnings but constant software issues, it’s almost 2 years old and it’s still needing additional updates. Though if going for an ingenium diesel take the twin turbo D240 as the single turbo D180s are trouble as you know. That’s the latest theory which makes sense, my D5 was single turbo TD6. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I might need to clarify what I said there:

When I said that the DS is “a better car” I meant that, for anyone new to Land Rovers, it’s much less surprising to drive for someone who’s more used to a generic “car” (like a Golf/Astra/3 Serieszzzzz...). That’s got to suit a lot of people, but not necessarily those that want a proper FL2 replacement.

@Tigger, Indeed that’s what I said in the first line, a good car but for FL2 devotees it doesn’t have that “Land Rover” feel so much.
But for new customers of the street, they love it. Regards

I find that it is in the seating position, that I prefer the FL2 over the DS.

I was much more at ease in the modern RRS I drove, and it gave me much the same feeling of being in command of my road position as my FL2.

So for me the only way is up, if and when I can afford a post '17 dynamic model. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Oddly I find it the other way around, I struggle to get a perfect position in the FL2, almost but there is just a slight awkwardness to the position, found the same with our FFRR strangely (although better), but the DS is easy to get comfy in, drove my DiL’s D5 at the weekend and that seemed not as good as the DS to me even though a much bigger cabin.

100% with Ian on this, the Freelander driving position is leaps and bounds in front of anything i have tried to replace it with, the latest being I Tiguan, OMG had it brand new few short runs I found very stiff but on my bi sabbatical up North it done my spinal issues no good whatever !!! Took a massive hit but comfort it everything when you have these problems lucky enough to find Florrie few issues as per but worth the grief just to be comfy, trying DS, found for some reason I felt low down and claustrophobic. Smooth mind.

Main issue I think is the seat does not go quite far enough back for me.....so always just a bit too close to the pedals. Regards
