2013 MY Headlights

I need to replace one of headlights and have been looking for something suitable on ebay

My understanding was that the 2013 MY facelift models had a different headlight to earlier models. A lot of sellers seem to be suggesting that earlier versions would be compatible

Please can anyone advise whether I need a post 2013 MY version or will earlier types be suitable??

Thanks Steve

The earlier types are completely different to the facelift headlights as they do not have the led DRl`s and have a 2 bulb arrangement as normal for a halogen set up whereas yours has a single projector type that uses a single bulb for main and dipped beam. The later type lights (Halogen and HID)are very similar so you need to make sure that you get the correct one for your car which should be the halogen type being an XS.

Is it nearside or offside you need? This is the type you're after if your 13 XS is the same as mine:

That one seems pretty cheap, though it does have a broken lug.

If you're prepared to splash the cash you could upgrade to facelift Xenons - a few people on here say it's the best mod they've ever done, and means you don't have to shell out on HB3 bulbs so regularly - though not sure how simple the process is as think there are issues with levelling and altering the CCF? Plenty of people here will know more about it than me though.

Having bought my FL2 new in 2014 I didn’t realise how pathetic the halogen lights were. The HB3 bulb operates the dip and full beam a metal cover partially covers the bulb when driving with dipped lights and when you operate full beam the metal cover fully retracts. I must have blown 15 bulbs easy in the first year of ownership turning off the auto lights does help to keep the bulbs last a bit longer.

In the end I was fed up and more importantly shocked with the poor output of light spread on the halogens. I purchased a brand new set of MY15 (black reflector) Xenon Headlamps. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

How much did you pay for your facelift Xenons? I'd like to do this mod for exactly the same reasons, but can't find headlights for less than about £450 each!

Is installation easy? Read on here somewhere that it needs a CCF edit and that there might be issues with self levelling?

OK thanks guys for the response. That all pretty much backs up what I was thinking.

The mattmjones link on ebay looks like mine, but says it is suitable for MY 2006 - 2014 so I guess that could mean they are compatible with earlier models

The reason mine needs replacing, is that I went to replace a bulb and found that all the lower lugs were snapped off as well as some of the receivers on the plastic mounting plate. I have no idea how that happened

Take care with used eBay headlamps that you’re not buying stolen property Evil or Very Mad

I’d buy from a forum member, but never used from eBay.

But you could say that about anything from eBay (secondhand) or Facebook, Gumtree etc etc.

There was a single AFS FL2 headlamp for sale a few months ago in Essex on FB, only £50 as I recall, but no real reason to suspect it was stolen, the chap also had some kids stuff for sale also....don’t think he nicked that either Laughing Regards

Yes, I could say that about Facebook or Gumtree as well.

Amongst Discoveries, headlamp and grille theft if common and it’s all getting sold somewhere. Unfortunately, there are too many people who don’t want to know too much about where it’s come from, as long as it’s the right part and the price is right.

As long as that’s the case, thefts will continue.

Why can’t a forum member sell stolen goods? I knew a person on a Porsche forum he has a 944 and would sell stolen goods. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

As with anything online, it's 'buyer beware' really isn't it. All you can do is use your common sense - check the seller's history, look for good feedback, get in touch before you make an offer or place a bid and see what sort of reply you get etc.

9 times out of ten you can tell whether an item is likely to be dodgy from an item description and how the seller responds to questions - generally easy to tell whether someone is genuine or not.

Plenty of people break up older FLs and other LRs for parts, or take useful bits off write-offs before they go for scrap, so you can't assume everything is nicked, surely?

For example I bought a few bits from a guy (who worked as a paramedic, lovely bloke) who'd had his 09 FL2 written off because someone had driven into the back of it and his insurance company wouldn't pay for cost of repairs. So he was salvaging all he could from it before it went... Fair enough I reckon!
