Good write up Steve. I like your pump - that reminds me, I have one similar from Lidl. May be good for the transfer box....

The A/C compressor is nowhere near the transmission fill plug. This thread is for the TD4 auto gearbox. Is your model petrol by any chance? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Lando-Rover Calrissia may I suggest you pm member p_gill of this site, he has the same vehicle as you & has posted in this thread. He has not mentioned any of the dramas that you appear to be having.

Nick, I missed Lando's question. Thanks for the heads up. Lando, you don't have to remove the AC compressor you just need a socket extension (about 2 feet) and a magnetic pickup Like this
Good luck Paul |

My 2008 FL2 is going for an auto box ATF change this week and, before I had it over to the Volvo indie who's going to do it, I’m wondering what’s the rationale behind measuring the amount of fluid drained out and then carefully replacing it with the same amount? The LR manual simply says, in effect, drain fluid, refit drain plug, replenish until it comes out of the level tube, refit level plug, add 0.5 litre of ATF and then set level with engine running after running through the gear positions and with ATF at 60 degrees. Why the need for measuring what came out? |

Checking the quantity of what comes out gives you confirmation of what to expect on replenishment. Although the static state from the level tube is precise, the level at 60 degrees is not. It is just a check to give peace of mind. If the box had a dipstick we could be more sure. Although I measured what drained out carefully on my first time, I do not check now I do a refresh. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Many thanks for the reply. I guess it’s not something I need to fuss about as it’s the final level that matters. |
