Filled up two days ago. Decided to use the torque pro app & scan my coolant temp as the season is now changing, mid fall here. Decided to run an engine fault check since I was connected to the ECU and found a PENDING fault P2402, EVAP Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit High. No check engine light triggered at this time.

Powered off and reset the code, reseated the gas cap. Drove for about 30-40 minutes, rescanned for faults and the pending code reappeared. Reseated the gas cap again and reset the code again (tank is now just below 3/4s, reseated cap again. Drove for 30-40 minutes, no more pending code this time................

Considering driving to my nearest Landy spiffy d(s)tealership today, 1 hr away, and grabbing a gas cap and also changing the fuse controlling the DMTL (found an old post by @p_gill on this). Just looked at the manual but still don't know which engine compartment fuse?

All suggestions are welcome , even personally offensive ones............ .

Purchased and replaced the gas cap today from LR. Checked continuity on all engine compartment fuses and they are all good. Not sure which fuse controls the purge valve. Cleared codes again and will likely have a lengthy drive tomorrow again and see if the pending P2402 comes back.

OK....check engine light came on today, fault code P2402, EVAP Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit High. Looks like the new gas cap did not resolve issue as I had hoped. I cleared the code and fueled up to 3/4 tank. Maybe it's the DMTL, LR Part number is WTR500030 and I think the OE manufacturer is Bosch. My nearest LR wants almost $250+ CAN for this part.

Anyone has any suggestions on trouble shooting the cause of this fault code as I hate swapping out parts. Is there a sensor I can pull the fuse and reinstall for this part or if there is an electronic sensor for it? I checked the manual and the online shop manuals but I am unable to locate the actual fuse for the DMTL?

Update; I will replace the F1 fuse in the engine compartment tomorrow and see if that helps..........if not, I will replace the DMTL pump.

The evaporative emissions system for you (NAS spec) is different for the rest of the world (ROW spec). Only the NAS version has a pump, so few people outside USA will have any experience of the device and it issues Im afraid. Jules

Update: Picked up the Bosch OEM pump (WTR500030) and a LR purge valve (LR003489, the price was right)......code P2402 came back after 650kms along with code P2406 pending). Once I get some time and maybe access to a hoist, I will give this a whirl.

Going to tackle this problem over the weekend, weather is starting to cooperate. Hopefully, it's a simple R & R.

There's only one way to test as EVAP system and that's with a smoke wizard or smoke pro.
Tiniest of leaks or if a control solenoid is leaking the smoke wizard will find it. The system can be pressure tested with the wizard to ensure the solenoids are closing by checking the mercury glass.
The smoke should also have dye tracer and with an Ultra violet lamp and yellow glasses the tiniest of leaks can be found.
Worth also checking the voltages at the EVAP components and make sure they in parameters. Jaguar x-type sport gone

@jules, thanks for the good wishes and hope the chimney repair goes trouble free! @p_gill & @oldgeezer thanks for the info. Going to go over all electrical connections for the pump and likely swap the pump out first. Leak test with smoke if it persists. As a point of interest, one observation, I no longer hear the motorized humm coming from the left side rear wheel well which did coincided with the timing of the P2402 code.

Update; R & R the fuel leakage monitoring pump (PITA to work on without a lift) located in the DS rear wheel well. Cleaned and checked all electrical connections and ordered a new fuel leakage monitoring pump filter (LR027066) from Landy, the parts guy is a very decent fellow! Code P2402 is now gone and hopefully, forgotten. It may simply have disappeared with just disconnecting and re connecting the electrical connections but I had already bought the pump JIC. Anywho, I will be going back in some time next week and swap out the pump monitoring filter with the one for the Evoque.

What's weird is LR Canada sells the pump monitoring filter, the pump and the evap canister all as one unit for the 2008 LR2............WTBH!
I was told that the Evoque uses basically the same monitoring filter and I could substitute it for the one in my model vehicle and, of course, it was sold separately for the Evoque.

Hopefully this is a final update; R & R the monitoring pump filter today. The original was badly caked with mud and dirt, it only looked like a filter after a handwash.....11 years of gunk! Happy to report Evoque part #LR027066 is the exact replacement for the monitoring pump filter for the 2008 LR2 i6.

A few pointers to anyone with a similar issue now with hindsight.............I've done 1000+kms without the fault returning and also, I can hear the pump again on occasion as was & is normal (runs on occasion for about a minute on shut off in rear RH wheel well).
1. Pgs 1181+ in the shop manual was a good reference for the i6 petrol engine
2. Having changed the pump as well as the filter, my rearview assessment is: the culprit was likely a blocked filter. The filter was so mucked up with dirt and road grime it likely caused the pump to draw too much current hence the P2402. A good washing of said filter would likely have done the trick just as well.

Time will tell.......
