Western Power Steering

Hi everyone.
The power steering rack has failed in my Freelander. I’ve had a quote of £1100 inc vat to s&f including reservoir and wheel alignment. I understand the rack is £600 + vat, but I’ve seen Western Power Steering offer a reconditioned rack and reservoir for £250 inc vat and delivery.
Sounds too good to be true, and those situations usually are. Has anyone used them before? Or if not, what do you think of my quote please?
Regards
Simon

Not necessarily too good to be true. I don't know Western and have never used them, but I believe they will supply a reconditioned rack on an exchange basis - that is, you will send your old rack back to them, they will then recondition it and supply it to the next customer. So you're really just paying for reconditioning, not a whole new rack.

Not used them myself, but reading their website they do seem to specialise
in reconditioning steering racks and are quite clear in recommending, replacing the reservoir bottle and flushing
plus a 3 year warranty.
A lot on this forum recommend Bell engineering for transmission problems
and that's all reconditioned units.
Personally I would go for it.

Out of interest, is the power steering rack easy to get out or a PITA ? Jules

I've used WPS a few times, for steering boxes, and they have ways been spot on Thumbs Up

Never used them for FL2 racks yet...

I've decided to bite the bullet and pay the full amount quoted Big Cry

I would've had to buy the rack and supply it to the repairer, which is perhaps a bit risky.
