Peeling Grill - any suggestions ?

The lacquer is peeling off from the grill of my 2014 FL2. The underlying paint looks OK.
The "piano black" surround is not peeling only the grey honeycomb part.
I wonder is it possible to remove the lacquer without damaging the underlying paint and then simply re-lacquer it.

Get it to a paint shop and it should be around £100 to clear it up unless your handy with a spray can. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

My 2013 XS has done it too. Waiting for it to get a bit worse before I do something about it... See it so often on FL2s, but seems to be random models that are affected.

Somebody in the production line cutting corners maybe?

Would be an easy claim to make within the manufactures
3year warranty outwith that and even with extended warranty it’s tougher BUT not impossible. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Mine's still under Landrover approved used 2 year warranty until this December and its going the same way. I thought about making a claim on it but read somewhere that paintwork defects are not covered by the warranty Rolling Eyes Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Read somewhere maybe on here that using a power wash causes the paint to come off

It’s in for a service next week, I’ll have a word but I don’t hold out much hope, even a gesture to pay part of the cost would be welcome. 64 plate TD4 SE Santorini Black

They both use the same solvent. You could try spraying with a can of top coat.

Clean off any grease from fingers with lighter fuel & clean the entire surface with lighter fuel. Any grease of any description makes it far more likely for paint to come off. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Indeed it is annoying.

But, on reflection, I think I'll probably wait until it affects more of the grill or I'm about to sell the car, before I do anything about it. Jules

Not only Freelander grills pealing. Range Rover text on front & back of car. Seems to be a bigger issue.

Gosh that's bad - considering how much these RRs cost it is awful in fact. Jules
