Are they all automatics ? and I can't see any reference to a lo range box which is essential if you want to mount the kerb in Chelsea. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The price of the defender once speced up came to £61k , surly it’s going to kill sales of the disco. I must add I like the defender very much , well apart from those metal bits over the windows. Btw did you sell the prices of the top spec car? Starting at £79k Rolling with laughter Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Unbelievable that the black wheel arches, such an iconic feature of the original Defender, are optional extras ! Without them, the new Defender looks bland. A trait of all modern LR/RR arches.
I'm sure the aftermarket off road crowd will develop more rugged looking arches eventually - and at a cheaper price than the "Genuine Optional " versions.
Must admit though, despite early trepidation , I actually like how it's turned out .
Did anyone else spot the "CB40" at the bottom of the tailgate ?
The van version looks particularly bland - sort of reminds me of the "Challanger" prototype. Just doesn't seem to have any charisma. It really does need those black arches !!

Just did a build for a laugh.
Approx £55k for 1model up from base spec 110, with just a few options including metallic paint, sunroof, tow pack, mats mud flaps etc, nothing glitzy or really special.

My thoughts for what they are worth:

Scandalous that £42k only gets you steel wheels (White steel wheels, wonder how long it will take those to go rusty and look Censored ) no front fogs, and a plastic steering wheel.

No Firenze red Big Cry
Exterior side mounted carrier Rolling with laughter
Personalised illuminated door tread plates Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
What is that metal side window divider thing about? Rolling with laughter
No diesel option on the top spec X model.

How will the 2.0 Ingenium diesel fare in the Defender? Will it suffer oil dilution like the DS?? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I like it, the price is more than I was expecting though, hence only the D200 in mine.

As for oil dilution, it depends how the engine is mounted. Longitudinal it doesn’t seem to be an issue, transversely there may be issues. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

BUT at those starting prices I think JLR have really got no idea of the market.
It’s certainly got appeal but I don’t think it’s not going to be a sales winner for them.

People were paying those prices and more for the old Defender only a few years back. They would buy a new vehicle and then spend thousands and thousands on upgrades to wheels/interior ,engine etc etc and were in Range Rover Sport money by the time they were finished. Most people nowadays will only be interested in how much a month it will cost them, not the overall price! Sadly I have always paid cash when I buy a car so I have a fair bit of saving up to do! Big Cry

Whilst I agree with you you’ve missed my point.
The people who spent crazy money on the outgoing model would never buy this car and even by JLR’s own comments this is not in any way connected with the outgoing model.
This model is going for previous non defender market which has been with a lot of models over the last 3 to 4 etc years which has really not worked overall for JLR. Sales are down everywhere unlike say a manufacturer like Volvo.
As a marketing person JLR’s offerings are really narrow now and doesn’t sit well for the short to mid term future. MY15

I think that the people who bought the old Defender and then spent loads to upgrade it really didn`t want the original car as it stood as it was too slow, uncomfortable etc etc but did want the adventurer go anywhere image that the car had. If the new car has that image then I think they will sell loads. A few high profile owners like the royals, footballers etc and like and it will be a big success regardless of the price! I`ll be after one a used one in a few years when I can afford it. I need to drive a big car to compensate for smallness in other areas! Rolling with laughter

I guess LR have given up on the real off road and farmer market and are building a lifestyle vehicle with lots of electronic fancy stuff which you definitely don't want if you are going somewhere remote. Next week I am off to Kenya for my annual trip to see my son who lives about 20 miles from where LR did the testing (about 200km from the LR dealer in Nairobi so good luck with LR Assist) so I might go and have a look at what it's really like. I have hired a Mitsubishi Pajero (it's either that or a Landcruiser - no LR products on offer) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

They will make far more money from the lifestyle buyer who will spec up a vehicle with lots of accessories than a farmer who buys the most basic spec then runs it into the ground and does not want to spend money on servicing and repairs etc. The military might take a few for their white fleet but it is too small for most frontline duties now. As other countries catch up with climate change you wont be able to buy any vehicle that does not have electronics/adblue etc to reduce emissions so a basic diesel truck that you can fix with a big hammer will become a thing of the past eventually!

I don’t know a farmer (not withstanding any “fashion/hobby” farmers or landed Gentry) who have bought a Deffy over a Japanese pickup for many years, in Norfolk we have two L200s and a Navara as work vehicles, wouldn’t touch a LR to be honest when it comes to earning a crust.
