Does this mean post-2011 model FL2 do not show this problem at all, guys?

At 120k I had mine also replaced by Austen at Bell engineering last summer. Now after almost 2000 km everything runs smoothly. Replacement also got rid of a high pitch noise I got from front undehood and was thought to be caused by the lower engine mount. It just disappeared after the replacement and not sure if it was due to vibrations or the re fit of the shaft etc. Austen helped with all questions I had and managed shipment to Greece. Thumbs Up

Looks (or rather sounds) like my diff is also on its way out. Noise that sounds like a jet engine whirring up as the speed increases. Stops of I dip the clutch.

Mine is an early 2011 facelift with 75k on the clock. Could really do without getting it fixed Sad FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

My one, 2008 HSE Auto, has had both rear wheel bearings replaced, the most recent was a couple of weeks ago.
I had the same noise coming from the car straight after the bearing was changed. Question is, has the other rear gone again after less than 10k miles, or is it the diff bearings...?
I was getting a bit of a vibe coming from the back end, but that was found to be a seized handbrake linkage.
Noise is doing my head in..!

It had a very recent Haldex service and diff oil changed at the same time.
It's on 146k miles and has been looked after properly.

I have a diff that's been rumbling for a while. Missed it at first due to a noisy wheel bearing. Cars done 60K. Checked the level last year @9yrs & topped up as it was lower than it should have been but not changed.

Added these high power magnets at the same time. So this is what it's picked up in 12 months. Just drained @ 10 yrs. Level still good. Oil pretty dirty on the bottom of the sump. Defiantly needs a drain.

Walenut,

Two things

1. you need to remove and clean the bolt every month or sooner

2. you need a bigger stronger magnet

Will you magnet lift a wrench like this if you hold on to the fill bolt?

To be honest Paul this was a token gesture as the Diff rumble is annoying particularly at higher speeds. I'll probably have to get a reconditioned unit from Bell at some point. Just seeing how long I can make it last.

Can't remember if Austin is using a magnetic drain plug in the modified one he's doing. If not I'll probably order the one you recommend from the States. Thumbs Up

Walenut,

Austin at Bell Engineering is the right solution.

In the UK you have several shops that have replaced the pinion bearing successfully.

One is Austin another is MrRover75 he has done it also.

I am sure that there are others.

Here in the States I don't know of anyone that I would trust to change the bearing.

If I lived closer to Austin or to MrRover75 I would have already had mine replaced.

I am at 130K miles and my pinion bearing is worn but because I collected the magnetic dust it is silent.

Someday it is going to fail and I will have no choice but to rebuild or replace it

Let us know if you get yours fixed

Take care

Paul

There's now a supplier of Dimple sump plugs in the UK so thought I'd give it a go.

Very nice!!!!

They increased the surface area by making the magnet a dome (my older dimple is flat)

Run it for a 1000 miles and then remove it and take a picture.

I am very curious to see how many particles it captures

Take care

Paul

Here is my old Dimple

I went to the North America Dimple website but was unable to locate the rounded version pictured a few posts up? I did find the flat model. On my list to acquire.
