Definitely Thumbs Up

The fuel bills and running costs may rekindle the appreciation of the Freelander

Where the D4 scored over the 3 was its 3.0 engine and eventually the 8 speed box. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Never owned, or even driven a D3, but I certainly prefer the way it looks (both inside and out).

Still very keen to see what the OP makes of the idea of a D4. If he’s bored with the FL2, but has liked it before that, the D4 represents exactly the same drug, but in a much, much, stronger dose! Laughing

Having carefully reviewed my ACTUAL use of the FL2 and my decreasing miles per annum I have concluded that the more I look at other makes the more I am convincing myself to move away from the LR mark Shocked although I have always liked the Discos I won't be having one - the RR Overfinch was just a whim Confused

The quest is definitely narrowing - saloon cars are out - too low for ease of access - SUVs and X-overs are now my focus
Black cars with black interiors are out
Have now discounted: Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Fiat, Seat, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, BMW, VW, Toyota and Honda

I seem to have developed a preference for uprated models with extra trim and gizmos

Now want to do more detailed checks on:
    Peugeot 3008 (latest model)
    Volvo XC60 R Range
    Skoda Karoq Sportline

Thanks again for all the input and fedback which has been very helpful and informative Thumbs Up No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

XC60 R Design out of those 3 IMO

I’m sure it comes with air suspension as standard.

EDIT - It’s R-Design Pro that has air suspension. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Is the Volvo a lot more expensive than the other two?

Historically the Volvo should have the stronger residual value - I will be shopping around when I do decide which to go for - my daughter used CarWow last year to get a really good deal so I will probably give that a try at some stage No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

I used CarWow to buy an MX-5 2 years ago, having not been happy with the £500 discount offered by my local dealer.

CarWow got me 5 quotes, one of which was £1,000 better than the local dealer had offered.

But I did laugh when it turned out that this quote through CarWow (£1,500 off) was a different salesman from the very same local dealer who’d originally offered the £500 discount. If the dealer had been above board face to face they’d have saved time and not had to pay the CarWow commission too.

So never believe them when they say “it’s the £best they can do”. Smile

Audi Q3?

We had a 2L diesel auto from new for three years, never missed a beat, cheap to run, excellent build quality, comfortable nice light leather interior (although not sure they still do the lighter interiors Neutral ) and quite nippy. Regards

David

Disappointed Confused just been to see the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 top of the range models - great equipment and good feel about the build quality but no space!
We are all over 6 foot tall (in both directions) and the driving position feels hemmed in by the 'cockpit' styling - passenger space particularly leg and head room were limited and felt uncomfortable.
So that's a strong contender off the list leaving just the trusty Volvo to see now - if I can find one that is - why are they all fitted with black interiors?

Is there much difference between a VW and an Audi?

This reminds me of a time when we tried to “upgrade” the house. We Looked at several/many houses, all for more money, yet every time we came home, we couldn’t believe how much nicer our current house was! Rolling Eyes

The FL2 is a hard car to match, let alone beat, without spending a lot of cash Rolling Eyes

Yes, a big difference.......inside with the trim and design of the interior, Audi are much nicer and designed to be more luxurious where as VW are more austere inside with a more “practical” look, my mates just gone home after 10 days here helping with the garden, he has the latest Tiguan and though a very nice car it is nothing like as nice a place to be inside as our Q3 was, and that was a 14MY.
Our A6 Hybrid (12MY) was sheer luxury inside, but the equivalent Passat was much more “Mondeo/Cavalier.

Mechanically virtually identical apart from some tweaking of suspension settings. Regards

David
